My grandson is talking about getting one to make custom parts for his airsoft guns (some of his modded ones are still air but no longer soft) so I may kick in a bit for him to get a better quality one. Even if can't get to do the fiddly parts it would be nice for bigger and none exact things like diorama components.

Oh the things I could do!

DUDE! YOU HAVE TO GET THIS KIT!!!!

OK fast progress. The reviews that said this is the best Tamiya aircraft kit made were not kidding! The engineering and detail without having a massive number of small parts is truly amazing. A perfect stress free out of the box project. Even if you are not into Japanese WW2 aircraft this is worth picking up. Sort of sad I am going to close it all up and hide everything with a pilot. May pick up another to leave open.

So enough with the sales pitch.

Cockpit all done and ready to button up in one evening. Don't think I have ever done that before.

Main assemblies

Base colour

Detail painting and small parts added

Black tinted acrylic floor finish for depth

Testors Dullcoat to bring it back down. Gauges dotted with Testors clear parts cement for gloss

Perfect fit.

Almost all will be invisible in a closed canopy and with a pilot but I will know it is there (and it makes pretty pictures) but it is only about 4 hours of work from start to finish so no time wasted

How you get all that done in just 4 hours is beyond me. lol. I think the only way I'd ever stray away from cars is if I ever get an airbrush (since I don't think it'll be easy to do paint schemes otherwise), and an actual room dedicated to models.

Your work is brilliant!! BTW what's the shelf life of the model once lovingly constructed?

I remember once buying a 1:43 scale metal car kit, a gift for someone. Never seen them again.. are they still sold I wonder.. here I go into another rabbit hole..

When I was 10 abut a month. Now pretty much forever. The problem is I am running out of shelves.
Yes I believe they still exist. Probably stupidly expensive now though.

You can get rattle cans for the big parts and the rest can be done by brush. Ones like this are easy with one colour top and one on bottom.
There are loads of guys that do complicated camo all by hand but I wouldn't touch t.

Sounds to me like it's time for a battle to cull the fleet a bit. Unfortunately I don't think I could get the firecrackers and bottle rockets across the border.

Oh we can get them here anyway. I do have the high powered pellet gun. Could even break out the .303 and see what that did.
