Headlight (With DRL) HID to LED conversion Pro and Cons?

Hey guys, I have the headlight housing with the Daytime running light with HID projectors.

I wanted to know if anyone here did a HID to LED conversion?

Are there such a kit? Plug and Play? and would it be brighter than HID or no difference at all?

I know the OEM one is D4S HID at 4300k color temp.

Ideal temp is between 5000k to 6000k for the best white light.

And most LED is around 6000k.

So wondering if LED conversion from HID is even worth it?
OR
Just swap the D4S bulb out to 5000k/6000k and be done with it?

Thanks

I'd keep your HIDs. Light output wise going to LED would be a downgrade in your HID assemblies and could never match the output an HID puts out. IMO 4300K is actually the ideal output. Any higher starts generating a tint of blue. I've been installing HID kits for years in my cars and customer cars. I've found 4300k - 4500k to be the truest white. Stay with what you have for the brightest white output. If you want a tint of blue go with 5000k but not 6000k that's when it really starts looking noticeabley blue. Hope this helped you out.

+1

I've had cars with both HIDs and LEDs and the HIDs are the most powerful, hands down.

I agree, HID is as good, if not better than LED. I have replaced my stock D4S bulbs with these gen2 5000K bulbs two years ago. Their lighting is significantly better.

I went backwards because I bought another set of headlights. From LED to HIDs. I like the HIDs much much more.

ah ok, so staying with HID for best lighting...unless you are able to get those crazy LED techs in the BMW

Otherwise for daily stay in the range of 4300k to 5000k max....

As I'm looking for the best best output...and I find 5000k best visible for my eyes...4300k is too yellow for my liking at night

May also be important to note the color of the bulb is affected by the ballast as well. Bulbs being the same, 5000k using a Chinese ballast will be a different color than the same bulb using an OEM ballast. Lots of factors play into HID setups. I say get a good quality set of replacement HID bulbs in 5000k and you'll be set for what you're looking for in light output and color. You can also swap the projector itself inside your assembly and increase overall output that way but that's for another day.

I replaced my stock HID's with Osram Xenarc bulbs, just like OEM, but 6000K. They match my othe LED's well and I like the color better. Part number is 66440CBI-HCB

You perhaps have a photo to show?

And where did you get it from?

Sorry, don't have a photo. Think I got them on ebay, but you can find them all over. Amazon, etc.

As I have mentioned in another post, as of now, HID's are still a bit brighter than LED's when put in a PROJECTOR LAMP (if put in a reflector, LED's are brighter, see Headlightrevolution's HID VS LED test on YouTube). However, HID has already reached its technological prime is no longer evolving whereas LED's are getting better & better each year & still have lots of room for improvement. Soon, LED's will be brighter than HID's. Till that time comes, stick with your HID's.
