DiodeDynamics 2018 BRZ Smart Tap Configure?

Hi all.

I have a 2018 BRZ with push to start. I recently bought the Diode Dynamics SmartTap because the relay that came with my TOMS had an initial delay.

However, I can't seem to configure any of the options? I followed multiple Youtube tutorials.

Thanks!

Jon

Can you be more specific on what you're trying to do? The configuration is pretty straight forward.

The SmartTap out of the box functions work.

However, I am trying to do the following:
1. Change tap count from 4->3.
2. Revert Emergency light strobing back to normal setting (non-strobbing).
3. Disable departure turn signal hold.

None of the configurations seem to work/save on my 2018 BRZ. Similarly with a friends same year model.

Guides I've followed:

Start with everything off, put the turn stalk to the 'left' position, and turn the ignition on (not starting). Then, return the stalk to the middle position, and turn the car back off.

Turn on the hazards, then put the turn stalk in the 'right' position. Once flashing, turn the ignition on (not starting). Then center the stalk, turn off the hazards, and then turn the car off. Test the hazards to see what setting you are on. Repeat this until you arrive at the setting you want.

With everything off, put the turn stalk in the 'left' position, and then hit 'unlock' on your remote keyfob. You may need to hit 'unlock' multiple times, never hurts to do it a couple times to make sure it goes all the way to zero. From factory, you have to hit 'unlock' twice to get to 0 seconds. Center the turn stalk once done.

Can confirm these work, as I've done this programming multiple times.

Also have had settings change inadvertently if I forget the turn stalk is on in one direction (or bump it accidentally) and I hit the keyfob or try and start the car. Always remember to center it when the car is off to avoid something randomly changing.

EDIT: I wrote this without even watching the videos you referenced. However, they say the same thing. Just be slow and deliberate with your programming. Don't rush the steps, there's no time limit on these. If it still isn't taking a programming, you may have a faulty unit (although I've never seen that failure type yet).

Thanks for the suggestion. However I have tried them slowly haha. I will give it one more attempt tomorrow before I try contacting DiodeDynamics.

If you don't mind me asking do you have a 2017+?

Appreciate it!

Personally I have a 2013. However, I have programmed these on a 14, 16, and 17. It's just a relay, it's the same across all models, and it is programmed off basic circuit detection. You could manually rewire this into something else and still set it the same way. All it looks for is pulses from the associated wires. Heck, for changing the departure lighting, you can manually engage the hazards to set it if you know what you're doing. It's nothing special, and it isn't communicating back to the car at all.

If you mess up the pulses, it might not catch the programming. Unless you have a problem with your turn or hazards not turning on at all, I would doubt there is an issue with the relay. Only other thing I can think of is if you have a power supply problem, as it will revert to factory settings if it loses +12v at any time.

Unfortunately, even after trying your steps it does not work :/ I still get 4 blinks (no more, no less) regardless, as an example.

It also doesn't seem to work on a friends 2018 BRZ (separate unit). So I'm starting to wonder if there is something different.

Contact Diode Dynamics customer support. They're usually very good about support, and will have the most information of anyone.

Probably it's not compatible. I had original TapTurn, and it didn't work on my EU 2018 86, same issues, I contacted support and they sent a replacement with Lexus logic. Flawless.
SmartTap is just not compatible with newer models and there's no updated version.

I spoke to DD and it seems its likely incompatible.

@gpvecchi
So you got a replacement TapTurn with Lexus Logic? I know unfortunately that TapTurn aren't producing any more :/

The DiodeDynamics one is apparently compatible for select Lexus models. Do you know what model Lexus yours was for?

Thanks,
Jon.

Thanks for the info. If you read their important notice, the owner had passed away and they aren't fulfilling new orders unfortunately.
