If in any crash that allows a properly secured battery to ground to the firewall then that ground will be the very least of you problems.
It is a device to stop morons from shorting out the cables with tools or parts and that is about the extent of it.

He asked for reasons, not likelihood. But fire in a bad crash is about the worst thing possible especially with egress issues or an unconscious driver.

I've seen more than a handful of battery source fires due to shitty or non existent + terminal protection.

In 45 years of driving, repairing, restoring and racing cars I have not once seen a fire from shitty or non existent terminal protection so...

If anybody thinks that little plastic clip on cover will provide protection in a bad enough crash to dislodge or contact the battery I have a nice bridge to sell them.

I like that Red battery cap .... It complements my Red theme going on.
I keep forgetting to replace it when I disco the Trikle charger and usually finding it sitting on the garage floor on my return.

I place it on my seat from now on so I don’t forget im plugged in and rip out the charger on my next drive.

Thumbs up

I did as JD001 suggested and performed my first "mod".
A little cutting away and the terminal cover now seats just where it belongs!
