Also, with non-stripped bolts it took all of 15 minutes from disconnecting the battery to getting the seat out of the car. Managed to get the back of the top cover off with little drama, and following the instructions at https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123479, cut some memory foam to size and wedged it between the frame and seat. This helped immensely. I also re-ran the wiring for the airbag and heated seat since half the clips were put in the wrong place, and the other half didn't reach where they were suppose to go because of it. The only difference from the thread is that for me the love handle bolsters are a bit too narrow rather than shoulder, and are supported by a thicker metal bar. In addition to losing some weight, I wanted to push those out. They did move a bit, but since I started I might as well commit to it. Left the seat in the house and will swap out my normal morning workout for the rest of the week with going downstairs and beating up on it. The tricky part is making sure to get them even while mindlessly brute force bending them. Tune in Thursday for "I broke the side bolster supports and now need a new driver's seat. Sparco Chrono Road seat should be here in 2 weeks." |

Yeah... Pretty horrid. It was such an old thread I didn't even remember posting in it. Was a bit of a surprise to see how it devolved. I wish I knew what unit he was from. Could tell a lot just from that.
Also, thank me for my fucking service. |

Younger sis just got married a few months ago.
She looks 10 years older now. Kinda like that thing presidents go through from entering office to when they leave. |

fun fact, i've never thanked any vet that wasn't drafted in for their service. while i respect that some have made the choice to serve, it was first and foremost a personal choice to follow a specific career path, no different than any tradesman, and no one thanks their plumber for choosing to have undergone training to unclog their disasters.

Now, on the flip side, I am uncomfortable with being thanked for my service because of a couple reasons. Mostly it's because it is given reflexively and I am forced to accept gratitude for an idea with which I may not agree. MOST of us didn't enlist for some patriotic sense of duty. We did it because it seemed the best option at the time. That's why them good ol' boys want us when we're young. We don't know any better.

As i said(poorly), no one thanks or expects thanks for any other career choice for simply pursuing that career. As you described, thanks for any other career is merit based. Especially as you said when many that chose to enlist do so usually for reasons other than service to the country. I know at least a few dozen guys that enlisted. One wanted to drive a tank. One loved shooting guns. One wanted to get college paid for. One went because his brother, and his dad both went, so it was expected. And one didn't know what else to do with himself. I don't believe it's right to be thanking people for taking on service to their country when the service aspect is more typically the last reason they're actually doing it.

Trying to sleep and was rudely interrupted by a 3.4 earthquake centered around the Calaveras fault. Not too bad. At first it felt like someone just running up the apartment steps to my landing and then there was a jolt to the entire building. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

One Remembrance Day many years ago, I was in my dress uniform at the corner store buying a snack and a pack of smokes. An elderly man walked up to me, said “Ubique” (the artillery’s motto, meaning our battle honours are “everywhere”) and thanked me for serving. I had never felt more uncomfortable being thanked for my service in my life. Judging by his age, he was likely a Korean vet and had seen far more action than an 18 year old reservist like myself would ever see. I don’t think anyone should expect to be thanked for wearing a uniform you volunteered to put on. If someone chooses to thank you, then good for you. Otherwise, keep your mouth shut and move on. |
