Nice to get a number for impression, not nice to do it continuously with this transmission. They should have used the launch-control. Quote:
What this engine is all about is the low-mid torque, but comparing to the Z4 it is clear that power is restricted to the top. I am sure that tuners will find a way to remove the restriction, but then warranty goes out of the window. |

^Yeah, the launch control program probably does the same thing. I'm sure the transmission is fine.
@unhappymeal, all BMW turbo engines are quite underrated from factory. And a quick shifting automatic will always impress with fast numbers when combined with a modern turbo engine. A better indication of how quick the car is, in conventional/practical terms, is the 5-60 mph time. I think C&D is the only magazine that actually measures that.

If it does exactly the same thing then why there is a difference in the result? How much does it rev the engine the launch control? Doing it manually you change the parameters and you can stress the transmission more. Journalists don't care doing this on a test car. It is not their own car.

As far as performance goes (as measured by C&D), here's a current Cayman S PDK:
Previous gen Cayman S 6sp: BMW M2 Competition DCT: Just for reference. Supra's in good company.

It's an entirely new vehicle and a new venture for Toyota; there's bound to be hiccups. I'd just like to wait for those initial ones to be discovered and addressed.

Any fully new model car can and likely will have some things to iron out. This can be magnified when it is a joint venture. Although there are plenty of guys that have had no big issues with the early cars I am very glad that I did not know it existed until well into the 3rd year of production. I wasn't too fond of this thing at first thinking it might be an overly purist tada wagon. Glad to be wrong

Here is a good read. It compares the Supra directly to an 86.

The other half are from Subaru being shit at plastics and interiors, I'm not saying BMW is perfect, far from it, our B48 needed new crank bearings at 15k miles, I just don't know what you guys expect will change in a year. Don't get me wrong, it's sensible to wait, but I don't think you'll magically dodge some major issues, the 86 still has problems popping up on new cars, I doubt the Zupra will be any different. |

You wont go wrong with either of them. Definitely sounds like you'd start off in an 86 and "graduate" to a Supra when you develop some driving skills and need a more potent machine. |

At the end of the day, it's up to your taste and what you want from the car. With that said, if Toyota do bring out 4 cyl (B48) w MT AND could shave another 200~300lbs, I'll gladly trade my car. |
