That sound will change with the engine RPMs though. If the sound does change with the engine "beat" then ya that is probably it.

you also have to think about how much fuel was left in the tank before putting the car away for a long time. if you have a full tank like your motorcycle no problem, no air space in the tank= less water molecules to stick. if you had a half full tank on your car before putting it away there’s a good chance water might have collected on the bottom since water is denser than the fuel.

OK let's discus this "water in a half empty tank" thing that comes up so often.
First off it needs to be understood that these cars have a sealed system where air is only circulated through the tank when the car is running or during a brief purge cycle about an hour after it is shut off. This means the air in the tank during storage is not being replaced. Now at worst case a cubic foot of air can hold up to 8 grains of water vapour at 70 degrees. This comes out to about .1 of a teaspoon of water in that cubic foot. That water will stay suspended in vapour form unless the temperature drops. Now, a cubic foot is 7.5 gallons which is under half a tank of fuel left in the car. If the temperature drops to freezing and all of the moisture in the air drops out into liquid form the MOST you can have is that .1 of a teaspoon. This is such a small volume that your engine isn't even going to know it was there. This is an easy experiment to confirm for everybody that is going to scream "IT IS MORE THAN THAT". On a nice warm humid day take a 5 gallon pail and place it upside down on top of a flat sheet of plastic. Leave it overnight (preferably a cool night) and then go look at how much water is on the plastic or condensed on the sides of the pail the next morning. Bet you don't find any since the volume would be too small to see.

worst case, letting the car sit over winter with a half a tank, you'll end up with 98 octane instead of 97!
