Dealer recommendation for valve spring recall: South of Seattle
I've recently discovered my FRS is part of the valve spring recall and should Toyota let me choose which dealership can conduct the repair, I'd prefer to take it to the one that others have found to be more technically competent, if possible.
I remember taking my FRS to Toyota of Renton for the ECU reflash/recall and the dash cam video of 8 guys standing around trying to figure it out didn't leave me confident in taking my car back there for anything else.

I went to Walker Renton Subaru for all my maintenance. Never had any issues plus the guy that always worked on my car has a modded BRZ.

Too soon really.
No notices have been sent. No replacements have been done. Personally, I'd like to be able to take it to a Scooby specialist. That may be in the cards eventually if and when corporate infighting dust clears. I'll wait for later rather than sooner.

The problem I'm facing is time. My plan is to have the car get caged in January and start the conversion into a race car. I would really like the valve springs remedied prior to this as removing and working on the engine is not currently part of the plans.
I too hope that they'll let me take it to a Subaru tech.

Well notices have been sent now and I got one... It says you can take it to a non-dealer shop and try to apply for reimbursement. Sounds like there’s no guarantee tho—anyone have experience with this? Otherwise, anyone have any dealer recco’s in seattle? Preferably north

Just got the car back from Toyota of Tacoma. The conversation at the dealer about the guys trying to move the car was funny. With the very narrow Recaro race seat and a full cage they had to go find the skinny guy to move it around.
I dropped the car off on Monday morning, it was done this Thursday afternoon. Was pretty straightforward. I asked the tech to use Techstream to turn off the seatbelt chime (No OEM belts) and he couldn't because his device wouldn't read my computer. Meanwhile my OBD2 Bluetooth adapter and iPHone app work perfectly so there's that. Seems to drive just fine. I will get under it and look for leaks etc this weekend.

It's a recall, not warranty work or a TSB... Therefore your flash or lowering springs should not be an issue. I took mine in with a fully gutted, caged car with a race seat and 6 pt harness. Heck, even the tech tried to disable the seatbelt chime for me - he failed, but he at least he tried. My car was still bone-stock (except for catback). Stock ECU (no tune), stock suspension/engine/etc.

Toyota of Puyallup
Took mine to Puyallup Toyota on River Road.
When dropping off I asked if they would do 3 things during the recall work. 1: change plugs 2: check TOB and feel free to replace if they feel it needed 3: program 2 aftermarket remote / immobilizer keys They put me into a 2019 Camery for a loaner which I regret I only drove a total of 15 miles back home / back to dealership when car was completed 2 days later. Was kinda hoping I was going to get that "gonna take a few extra days" call so to have the loaner over the weekend. For the plugs, the guy checking me in stated he would look up the charge for changing plugs w/ labor. Told him I had done extensive research via forums regarding the complete process involved with the recall work and that they would be pulling the plugs as part of the recall work. He quickly offered to just charge cost of plugs. For TOB I told them to just charge as needed including any needed additional labor. When picking up vehicle, there was nothing on paperwork saying they checked the TOB or any related charges. They stated they had no success programming my aftermarket keys but did charge me $128 in labor to try. Luckily the sales manager walked by and recognized me and had them remove the failed attempt to program keys charge. Roughly 35 miles after picking up car, a check engine light appeared for a PO441 EVAP issue. Called and was told it would be over 4 weeks before any loaner cars would be available so had to arrange having someone help in the drop off / pick up myself. Simple hose they forgot to reconnect so no charge .... Compared to the after recall work motor issues some have had, my minor issues are nothing to complain about so I consider myself lucky |
