Thanks @DustinS and @Sportsguy83 for all of the helpful posts.. I just lost all faith in the FA20 the other day when it started knocking with less than 35k on the odo and stock internals.. up until that time I was planning on building an NA FA20 after following @celek for so long.. I even have the spare FA20 with spun bearing in my garage that I was going to build... but now I think I'm going to sell all the FA20 stuff and go with something a bit stronger... time for an LS! I am going to do one part a bit different though and opt for the Tremec T5 transmission since I have 4.88 rear end and the T56 would be crazy short. https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...-can-here.html Do you guys have any thoughts on that path? I've read that it's a bit more compact, doesn't handle high RPM that well, but I think it'll do the job. My buddy in college had a supercharged 5.0 mustang with the T5 and it handled all that power pretty well.

@fika84 I have never worked with a T5 so I wouldn't know. The link you posted is showing a mid 3.XX final drive. I think the 4.88 will still be way too short. I would look for at least an OEM final drive.
On build news. Ordered the new radiator. After much research and searching I went with the Chase Bays S Chassis tuck radiator. It's the size I wanted with a dual pass, dual core and already has -20an fittings. Hopefully have that before the car gets taken down for a clutch job. Also looking at a fuel cell. Kind of decided on a simple 15 gallon tank and installing an Aeromotive Phantom into it. Only 7" tall. I will then cut a couple holes to mount the factory fuel level sensors so my factory gauges work as normal.

@DustinS yeah you're right on this one... the 4.88 is way to high for these engines unless I want a top speed of 80mph in 5th. Are you rocking the stock 4.1 ratio?

@fika84 Yes I still have the stock 4.1. Hesitant to get rid of it as it will be good if I can get traction haha. Traction is the current issue though. So if I can get a deal on an IS300 diff I will probably jump on it.

Do you think you would consider going even lower (3.55 or so) after having the 3.73?

Among other factors, consider that if you will be adding nice, grippy, wide tires and doing an NA build, I think 3.73 is the sweet spot. If you plan on boosting the car later, it may be needed to go even lower to try and offset tire spin when the boost kicks in.

Oil Pump came in yesterday. Will get better pictures later. Should help with the oil pressure issues. As soon as the weather quits giving us one 60 degree day and then a week of 20 degree days, I will start tearing the car apart to get everything buttoned up.

That is a bad ass looking radiator and nice Melling oil pump as well. Can I ask what size oil cooler you’re going with? What do you plan on doing with your car? Will it be running Hoosiers and full aero? If yes, I’m sure you’re aware oil pressure is a problem.

Car is 99% Street Driven (Currently my DD besides when Ice/Snow is on the ground, or if I feel like driving the miata). The other 1% is autox (which the car group I am apart of puts on outside of local SCCA events) and backroad runs . Eventually a few trips to hallett will occur when I can get the car squared away. My car is the definition of "Track Inspired build" as it's not feasible to make it to the track yet. I don't really ever plan to run slicks but I am aware of oiling issues. One of the reasons my first engine only lasted 8k miles. TSP assures me I don't have anything to worry about (As does a local drag car builder), but if I didn't, the first engine wouldn't have failed. Will eventually go Dry Sump when the funds become available.
