86 gear lever play
Hi. The gear lever on my 86 has a lot of side to side movement when in gear. It moves about an inch and a half on each side in all gears. Any advice on how to rectify this issue

Sorry. Couldn’t find the original post. Getting into second is a bit difficult when it’s cold. It does not rotate

Do you mean that it vibrates excessively, or that it's loose and wobbly?
The ability to get it into first and second gear is important, as is the question of rotation. If neither of those have changed then it points to an issue inside the gearbox itself.

Look at the exploded view of the gearshift parts. I dunno but there ain't much that can go wrong on the outside without affecting alignment between the first and second gear gates, and the lockout plate.

Frankly I don't see how you could have that much movement anywhere inside the tranny and have it still functioning.

Right? I've never had mine apart. Still can't picture how the thing works.

The best image of it that I've seen to date was shot by @VerusEric.

Can’t seem to get the video uploaded. It’s basically when in gear , if you move the lever left to right it has a lot of travel. So I took it apart yesterday And found that the bushes were worn. Replaced these and the problem is gone
