Largest tire on stock rims
What is the largest tire you can squeeze on stock rims and run with no spacers?

I've been running 225s...
Yeah I've been running 225s since I first replace the tires.
but I also have spacers, so I don't know if that answers your question. I wouldn't want to run anything bigger than that without wider wheels though. Jaden |

I guess the biggest question though is why do you want the widest tire possible on the stock wheel?

When I have to change the tires I want to max out the improvement in grip without any extra parts/cost.

According profile info you are from Canada. I guess that means you get your share of both rainy days and snow/ice in winter? Too wide tires may also mean reduced grip due them being more suspect to aqua/snow-plane, and also tires will be harder to heat to working temps (and in some cases reduced grip due that). As you asked - "on stock rims", while one can fit even much wider tires then manufacturers recommend, you'll add a lot of extra tire sidewall flex, resulting in mushy washed-out handling/steering. If one of main distinctive traits of these cars is relatively good handling, why f**k it up? Also tire rubber compound will change grip much more then tire width. If it's really grip you are after, get grippier tire model of tires still within reasonable width for specific wheels (stock in this case). That is ideally 205-215 for x7, and still reasonable 195 & 225. One CAN mount even narrower or even wider tires then that. But you've been warned on cons of doing that.

Is this just a DD or is there a reason you want more grip? Better tires in a proper size with proper alignment will be much better then wide crappier tires |

Don't get big tires. Get an alignment.

There are threads about this.... 245 / 40 is the answer. I did not do it, and i do not suggest it.

Avoid anything Michilen unless they are under $125 a tire otherwise you'll played as a gullible chump, that follows any sells pitch from any fool that wants to sell you an overpriced cheap tire. As to the size nothing wrong with a 225 wide tire.
