Forester XT would be my suggestion BTW. Beater enough to buy outright but great for the doggo and the best vehicle I ever owned in snow have been my two foresters.

Both people on the planet who do what you describe will agree with you. The other 7.4 billion wont have a clue what you are talking about. For most people, putting a platypus in the backseat is going to do them as much good as AWD in practical terms compared to FWD or RWD.

I would still venture to bet if people just understood what they had and its limitations...AWD is beneficial....

Like you, my FRS was totaled , but it was last June when a SUV rammed me on the highway. The insurance co. also gave me a bit more because I argued their evaluation criteria. I also had a loan, turned around and bought a BRZ fully equipped with 20,000 miles less on the odometer and utilized a paid rental from the insurance co. for 6 weeks (the time it took me to find and negotiate my price on the BRZ). Still, it was time consuming and time is irreplaceable.

Well, i ended up making a decision yesterday. Had to make a 3 hour drive yesterday and wanted to do it in style...so I picked up a 2017 Lexus IS300 F Sport, white on red interior.

Wouldve preferred a 350 but monetarily the 300 is better for me and the detuned V6 still feels like a decent enough but of power for my lifestyle (i dont track).

Went to the Subaru dealership first, told him I was very interested in taking home a WRX that day. His lease offer (over $500 a month) didnt reflect that he was serious about getting a sale and he let me walk oit. Looked at A3 and A4 as well and their offers werent touching Lexus either.

I LOVE the body style of the IS F Sport and have been wanting one since 2013. I am happy. Thanks for all of the suggestions and support!

I think that is the best case scenario for him, if he still owed 15K on a 5 year old car. I assume the payments were for another 5 years at that rate, so chances are, he would still have a payments, but no car anymore, at some point.

How much snow does St Louis typically get per year? You're 100% taking out your ass. I've had trouble with my lifted truck that's required with snow tires in snow

Edit: lol, average for st Louis is 15". Come and talk with that same confidence when you see over 60" as my hometown regularly does.

Yeah....my wife is from Michigan where the average is 50 inches, and I have lived in many locations during my military service. I've driven through ice storms in Texas where they have no preparation, and I also drove a semi truck through the donner pass during a whiteout snowstorm. I haven't updated my profile but I actually live somewhere with average snowfall of 38 inches a year according to google.


I'm not saying 60 inches isn't crazy or we have the same conditions I imagine Canada has.... but I've been able to get through a lot with snow tires on a forester. I did replace my last forester with a newer Xterra recently though, so we'll see how it does this winter.


Also, the OP states he is from Delaware. Google says state wide the snowfall average is 13 inches....so less than what you apparently feel I'm qualified to speak about.

When was the last time there was 60" in this area? Unless you mean annually and that really doesn't mean much since it usually melts in between.
The average around here is not near as much as the myths would have it.

I think most people only consider annual snowfall...and, to be fair, it is the most easily found metric.


A lot of the ease / difficulty that comes from snow / ice is the preparation. I don't know how Canada treats the roads, but I would guess they'd be more prepared than most places.

Yes if Cole meant annual then that is cool. It was the use of the word "average" that confused me. Measuring annual is not a great way to get a real life idea of how much snow is driven through though.


They do generally a very good job on the roads here. The main highways can be prepped with a mixture of sand, salt and beet juice so that even though the snow can build up they usually don't get very icy. Municipal and side roads can be hit and miss depending on how god a job each city or county does.

Yep. It is the neighborhood snowplow. I have never had an issue.
