As a sportbike rider, I find all this discussion about what econobox will beat the 86 in a straight line to be very amusing...
Once you ride something that can routinely do 0-60 MPH in just under 3 seconds, or a 1/4 mile in just over 10, or 0-100 in just over 6, and for less than $16K, all this acceleration discussion gets boring. Straight line numbers are meaningless. They require little skill on a bike (especially with traction control, launch control, wheelie control and other modern electronic enhancements) and far less skill in a car. Any monkey can twist a throttle or stomp a pedal. The difference between a man and a monkey, whether on a bike or in a car, is what happens in the corners... which is of course where the 86 shines. |

The 86 is not a good car for pedal-mashers.

Well, we've established that it barely has any passing power in certain situations. That's only one gripe that I personally have with a car that also has many pluses. It just means you have to be extra patient/cautious on the road.
There's no point in saying "lol just sell it" things are not that simple. Edit: it's still one of the best looking sports cars too, if nothing else Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Most of this can be solved by a little situational awareness. It's really not that hard to stay ahead of the car and plan accordingly. Maybe it is a skill developed by riding a motorcycle that I carry over to the car. Yeah, I understand there are times when there are no options and there is no way I can pass a Mustang if he does not want to be passed. Most of the time, however, I get to enjoy looking at the dummies stuck in the mess in the mirror that I saw coming before it happened.
None of this is rocket science if a dope like me can do it. 99% of the other drivers on the road are brain-dead drones, and if you can't minimize their effect on you (mostly) that's on you. |

I doesn't matter how many times you repeat it it does not make it accurate or real.

Say you're on a three lane road and you're in the far right lane. Traffic in your lane is going 45 in a 65 while the two other lanes are clearly going faster. You go to get over into the far left lane (since it is generally the fastest lane) and the sienna in the lane next to you thinks you want to race. By the time you are say, 5mph over the speed limit you realize you've run out of space/room to pass. The minivan has more hp/torque, even if it's heavier and had just enough to block you. Obvious thing to do would be slow down and go behind it and you can do that, but in a more powerful car, you would have already been able to get over. Also, we all own the same car. It would be dishonest to say it's fast, especially on the highway. It's a minor gripe, not sure how it turned into defending the thing. Edit: it's not like anyone said "uuuuuughuuu I'm soooo done with this car it so sloooooooow" but a supercharger or turbo wouldn't hurt on the highway. Optional but a valid option.
