I replied to your PM as well, but as long as there is a suitable spot where I can at least open the doors then there shouldn't be a problem. Or get it done at a mates place. |

Thanks for your write up so far, I'm surprised about the quality of the head unit though. When I was choosing extras to go with mine, the assistant told me that the stock unit was better than the Pioneer head units that they had to choose from.

I'm now past the 1600km run-in period but am sorry to say that I haven't had a chance to properly dent the firewall with my right foot so nothing particularly interesting to report on that. Inexcusable, I know. But I do have a small update on some other matters...
Re: paddle shifters. Multiple downshifts are executed very rapidly. For example, when cruising along at 80 in 6th and approaching a slow corner, you can be back in 2nd with four very quick flicks of the left paddle. No hesitation. No jerkiness. No ambiguity. Very pleasing. Not sure if it would be different under extreme threshold braking, but a track report will have to wait for another time (if at all). As others have mentioned, the movement and tactile feedback of the shifters themselves is not completely ideal, feeling and sounding more like switches than paddles, but that's about the only fault I can find so far, and consider it minor at best. If you're worried about it not being a DSG, I think you can probably relax. Admittedly, my own experiences with DSG's has been limited to date, but their enforced upshifts at redline and hesitancy around town have me currently thinking I'd rather have this system. I'll be driving a GTI for a fortnight in a week or so, and will give a comparison report after that to see if I've changed my mind. Re: known teething issues. I've now had a chance to pop the top and listen with the engine on. And yep, there's a colony of crickets living in there based on the sound. But it hasn't actually annoyed me inside the cabin yet. I've also detected condensation in the rear tail lights. Re: iPhone via iPod source rather than bluetooth source. In an earlier post I made mention of ensuring the phone is plugged in first if you want to be able to use the iPod audio source rather than just bluetooth. As my understanding matures, I'm now of the view that you don't have to plug it in before turning on the car. Instead, the best technique is to bring up the music app on the iPhone (after you've plugged it in) and set the AirPlay device to "Connected Dock" rather than "Car Multimedia". It seems to default to "Car Multimedia". And now for something new: tape on doors. I've noticed there's some "protective tape" on the chassis that aligns with the lower corner of the door when closed. I probably need to take a picture to properly explain but perhaps some other owners have seen what I'm referring to and can confirms it's not my dealer messing up some aspect of the Pre-Delivery Inspection steps? |

I hope they can iron out the cricket noise coming from the DI pump soon. I've read that the tail light condensation issue was being looked in to in May so people with cars built from June onwards should hopefully won't have this issue.
Keep up the in depth analysis! |

Usually there as, the area covered may be prone to abrasion from various sources. This is common item on lots of Toyota models. I just wish we knew what the stuff was as it seems to work much better than 3M film for maintaining its clarity. |

Switching songs from CD to USB, there is no lag compared to the SONY head unit in my other car. It's just instantaneous.
