Yep. 4th gear synchro is bad...same issue many others have had. They're just gonna replace the entire unit.

Not exactly what I had in mind within my first week of owning the car, but it is what it is.

Haha perhaps! I'm just glad it's being replaced. I was super bummed about it.

I had 4th/6th gear grinds and had the transmission replaced, but now I have an issue with 3rd. The car's transmission is just problematic, might be something you need to live with down the road.

I'm too modified at this point to think they'd even cover another transmission replacement now so I'm trying to live with it haha

I've been considering that. I'd really hate to deal with the same thing 30k miles down the road. I don't know...I've thought about selling the car with a fresh trans and getting into another Z. But then again I just ordered the MAP axleback...

So I got the FRS back yesterday. Overall, I'd say I'm a bit unimpressed.

I guess, considering it's a brand new transmission, I was expecting it to be smoother than it is. I'm surprised with how notchy it is considering it's new. I guess that's the nature of the beast with these Aisins.

Once it's broken in I'm swapping the fluid to Motul 300 and we'll see how it changes.

Also worth noting that 2-3 feels really sloppy now. Definitely not my favorite gear change. Previous transmission was easier to feel the gate.

swap the fluid now. The stock fluid is absolutely garbage, no reason to wait. Glad you were able to get everything fixed under warranty.

I was shocked at how notchy the transmission was too when I bought my 2015 used, but after changing the fluid because i bought a lightweight flywheel and upgraded the fork, bearing, and clutch and it really feels much better.

The really made the car to be upgraded through the aftermarket, but they really cheaped out on some stuff, including the transmission.

Yeah I'm realizing that. Well, I just ordered 4L of motul 300 so the trans and diff fluid will be replaced soon.

Hopefully that fixes the issue!

Totally reminds me of the issue I had on my last MT car which was an 2002 Celica GT I needed care when shifting from 2-3 wasn't easy to get a feel if I hit 3 gear already.

For me it's nature of Toyota MT cars which I've owned MK3 Supra and Celica all very notchy while the Honda's I've owned two Civic coupes one EX and Si have butter smooth transmission.

Good to know. I'm glad it's not just me.

On another note...MAP AB axleback arrived today. I'll post up a video of the sound eventually!

throw some redline or motul / amsoil fluid in there STAT, don't wait.

No reason 2 - 3 shift should be sloppy in this car,

compared to my 370z tranny the FT86 feels closer to my s2000 shifting wise, all the shifts are precis and I can feel the gate on each gear, except 6th which feels sloppy.
