I wish I could comment on this post as I probably have some pretty interesting knowledge about putting these on earlier model years.

I'm surprised to see the diagram shows the bleeder pointing down. The rotors are much larger and way heavier than stock. I'm sure the pads can be purchased elsewhere for less rather than from the dealership. I'm sure they are a standard brembo pad.

Has anybody done a complete teardown/analysis of the performance package?

I'd like to see pictures, differences of other brembo units on other cars like the STI.

Yes, i think we are also curious about weight differences for the rotors/calipers and rims vs the standard equipped option.

On another note, i just noticed Subiespeed/FT86SF has a new Brembo package available. Appears very reasonable. Would like to hear some opinions on this: http://www.subispeed.com/2013-subaru...6#.WJe22ogrKVM

I got that same kit which is sized identically to the PP front and rear brakes on paper specs. Brembo GT feels same as stock under hard braking to maintain brake bias. Front calipers have a thicker shape (does NOT clear TWS T66-F 18x8.5 +42 wheels whereas PP brakes clear the 17x7.5 PP wheels) and probably has greater heat capacity. Installation is nearly bolt on with the exception of trimming the lip off the rear brake dust shield confirmed by Brembo.

Hello everyone. I have a 17 BRZ with Brembos on it. I read somewhere that Subaru used 2002-200? WRX STi rotors. Is this correct? Reason I ask is I'm tired of fighting cleaning rust dust on the wheels after letting her sit for a few days. I'm hoping aftermarket rotors won't rust over as quickly. The rotors on my Outback hardly rust.
Thank in advance

Nearly all factory and after market rotors are cast iron. Iron + Air = rust. So there is no way to get away from rust unless you go carbon ceramic.

Also if daily drive the outback and not the brz then you are allowing the iron in the brz rotors to react with the environment longer which = more rust being created between drives.

I can let the Outback sit for a few days with far less rusting

My wife's Kia sat for five weeks with just a hint of rust on the rotors. Whatever the iron composition of the original rotors are they rust quickly.

Driving the car cleans the rust off. Why does it matter? Mine get rusted over after an 8 hour shift at work.

Eating up brake pad and rotor material is the way brakes work. More "aggressive" brakes means more friction is needed. To get more friction you got to have the pad digging into the iron rotor more. Picture it as the difference between large grain sand paper used for wood projects and the fine grain sand paper used to smooth out the clear coat on a paint job. The large grain sand paper is the performance brake pad and will dig a lot deeper into a paint job than the small grain clear coat sand paper "your outbacks brake pad".

So braking with the brz exposes a lot more roughed up iron molecules per rotor surface than your outback which has less exposed iron since it does not dig in as deep. I also believe lower performance pads can have a glazing effect which is essentially coating your rotor in melted lower performing pad material which would lower the surface area of exposed iron on your rotor face.

I experienced a similar rust difference in my evo 9 when I went from the oem brake pad which caused instant rust to a lower performing auto zone break pad which very noticeably did not cause my rotor to rust as fast. But on the flip side the performance on the auto zone pad was horrible!!! Once I changed back to a performance pad I got the quick rust again.

I know rust, brake dust, high pitched squealing, pads wearing out quickly and rotors getting eaten up quickly really sucks from a cost to your wallet stand point but from a physics/engineering stand point those are all great signs of a brake system that is performing efficiently. The same also needs to be realized for tires in that they are comparable with systems. High tread wear = more grip, but last for a year and lower tread wear = less grip but lasts longer.

So be careful about what you are trying to "fix" when it comes to rust and wear/tear on rotors. I would take it as a sign that the performance pads are doing a great job of biting into the rotor and stopping my sports car.

But like I said earlier carbon-ceramic rotors would be a great way have your cake and eat it too.
