100k mile change. No metal shavings, still has some red in it, hard to tell in this bottle but it still has some transparency. I would definitely recommend doing this at 60k miles and NOT 100k miles. You might be wondering why I went so long before a change? Well the sooner my engine/transmission go the sooner I get to v8 swap @BirdTRD EDIT: got late trying to get the temps right in the transmission, will finish tomorrow and put my impression down of the fluid change. the car was running perfectly fine before. so maybe not much of an improvement i can feel but at least the fluid is changed out. also, considering dumping 6 more quarts through just to clean it out a bit more since i didnt finish today

I'm curious has anyone used a mityvac pump to pull most of the fluid from the transmission? Been searching but all I could find were people changing the oil with them.
I'm going to be changing my trans and diff fluids soon and this looks like an easier way.

Great thread, really informative! I recently bought a 2013 brz limited from Florida with 38k miles. Very little service history but it seems to me that under certain shift conditions the AT behaves a bit clunky. I'd like to put all fresh fluids in for a baseline going forward.
I've become tight with the local guys who work at a Meineke in town and I pay them cash for a really good deal on consistently good work but basic things... So would you trust them with an ATF service? It seems complicated as hell and this isn't something to mess with.... But on the other hand the labor would cost barely anything and the personnel there have a lot of experience. I guess I'll start by getting some quotes! Sent from my STV100-1 using Tapatalk |

Good day
Has anyone removed the pan, gasket and old filter/strainer and replaced the fluids?

I will be doing my transmission fluid change this weekend. I saw the diagram where it showed the refill plug, refill hole and overflow plug. I am not sure whether I am missing something in the diagram from earlier post. I was wondering where is the drain plug to drain the atf.

One quick question. While I was doing the automatic transmission fluid change, the last step of checking the correct level of atf at the appropriate temperature using the over flow plug, am I supposed to remove the overflow plug while the car is on or turned off. I actually turned off the car once it hit the correct temperature and then removed the overflow plug and waited for to drain until thin like a thread.
Does it matter that I turned the engine off? |

If you turn off the engine, and set the fluid level, you are setting the fluid level low as this allows fluid to drain back to the pan from the torque converter.

Yes. The service manual instructions are a bit confusing but if you go to page PM72 (2. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID AMOUNT ADJUSTMENT) you'll see that step 2) section (2) is "Start the engine" and the final step 9) is "Turn the ignition to off", it never says to turn the off engine in between.
