Sorry lost the plot. Just realized we were basing this around an already wider wheel >.<'

Sorry to thread jack my American cousins but i wanted to ask for some advice..

I just swapped my primacies to Continental Sport Contact 5 in the stock 215/45 size and think they're still pretty rubbish with the car still moving about when i don't want it to and in the wet i still find it far too wild. I'll admit they're better than the stock tyres but that wasn't going to be difficult lol.

My question is do i just put this down to they're still a 215 section tyre and i need more width? If so what would you guys recommend? I want the car to be more like a Cayman and grip with precision..

I should say my car is n/a on stock suspension and is a GT86..

I have just replaced stock 215/45-17 Bridgestone Turanza EL400 tires with 225/45-17 Yokohama Advan Sport AS on stock rims. The ride quality has improved noticeably, grip improvement was dramatic. The car feels much more planted on the curves with less oversteering and softer on the bumps. There is no noticeable change in gas mileage and acceleration.

How well do the 225's fit? I heard that it plays with the sidewall and turning a little bit, which i guess is good from your experience.

I'm currently running 225/45/17 on 17x9 rim. It looks stretched I'm willing to bet it'll look fine on 17x8 though. Switching over to 245/40 sport comp 2 next weekend

They fit perfectly on the stock 17x7 rims. Compared to Turanza's, I don't feel any play. But 215 Turanza's had very little grip compared to this tire; they were easily drifting/oversteering at the corners. I need to have the same grip to compare sidewall flex. When compared with 215 width of the same Yokohama, theoretically there can be a little more cornering flex on the sidewalls but I highly doubt I can feel it without pushing the car to extreme limits. 225 tires are within the acceptable range of 7" wheels; there is no extreme bulge at the sidewall to cause excessive flex.

My experience is all positive. I will continue with 225 tires from now on. Plus, 225 width looks better to me since they fill the wheel-well better and might protect against curb rash.

Kinda scares me with the flex. I wanted to up to the 225, but i had a cracked ring around my tire's sidewall when i was on 215's, the tire guy said it was from taking corners too hard, and i haven't tracked the car yet

I would make sure the tires are not underinflated. Just by cornering, you shouldn't be able to break the steel belt unless the tire is defective or without proper pressure, regardless of 225 or 215. Such tire damage usually happen because of hitting a pot hole or curb especially with underinflated lower profile tires. 225 should be have better protection against potholes.

It was at 32, which i think is a good medium between track and street. I really want to blame the tires as it hasn't happened again yet and i use different tires now.
