Tom's LED went out!
Just purchased these lights second hand from a forum member who said they worked completely fine and even watched me install them on the car just to find out when i was pulling the car into the garage the drivers side light has 2 or 3 defective leds on the boomerang/running light. I tried to search this topic unfortunately couldnt get anywhere. Is there anything I could do?
Ps these are the red toms

I wonder if you tried a company like diode Dynamics if they could either fix it or have the parts for you to fix it? Just a thought.... I love those Red TOM'S though...

Is the plastic melted on the inside? USDM or JDM? I would contact TOMS directly, because this is a common issue with these lights.

Contacted diode dynamics last night and they have already gotten back to me. Great service by them but unfortunately they cant help due to the LEDs being molded into the light

I don't think you can get a proper response on these unless you brought them brand new?
Let me know when toms get's back to you... maybe contact depo too..? I have a set just like urs.... & I kind want to fix them too. (3 LEDs on the left break light went out) But the only thing on my car that's USDM ...... & Breaks within 1 year... Yaa.... This is why I would always go for JDM on aftermarket stuff cuz quality is just that much better..........USDM is usually "Just bearable" on quality thou its not cheap ebay china part bad but pretty bad none the less in my book. |

Some of mine went out too a while back in my clear Tom's. I pretty much gave up after the vendor wouldn't help.

This just happened to mine as well. Except mine are Buddy Clubs. If you buy them secondhand unfortunately you're pretty much out of luck.

I wonder what it is about TOM's that causes this to happen. I just bought a set of USDM Red TOM's from FT86 SpeedFactory. Hoping this isn't the fate that awaits my units. If it is individual diodes going out, maybe the taillights were not designed with the correct resistors. The OEM LED tailights on my Exige are prone to this. The forum fix has been to crack open the lens (which are ultrasonically welded to the body, so care is to be taken), de-solder any burnt out diodes, solder in new diodes (either from a donor take-off OEM unit from a crashed car or with new diodes), then replace the stock resistors with higher rated ones. The diodes then output less light, but only marginally so and not by any visually appreciable amount. No reported burnouts since. Perhaps this is what might be happening with the TOM's. Just a guess.

So, were the LEDs working on the initial install? If so I guess that relinquishes the seller from having to reverse the deal.
Tom's has so many reports like this. I am mind boggled people pay at least 150% of the price of some other tails. I have smoked Valentis from The Speedline and they look great, have been very reliable, and were a good price.
