Have you tried wiping out on purpose yet? Then almost wiping out and saving it?

Keep that up and eventually it turns into drifting.

One of the local track groups runs auto-x in the paddock all day for like $80. 2 runs groups and you just alternate run/work. I'm waiting til I can finally make a day to spend the whole time doing this is both my cars. I really really want to find the limits of my MR2 so I know what that snap oversteer feels like

I had a big event for work that took me away from internet for a few days. Beyond that I am spending most of my online time fighting with apps that keep crashing and banging out details for our summer meet. Probably won't be on much until the middle of June. Got some marketing to due.

That's typically discouraged, because a lot of the facilities aren't safe if you don't successfully regain control immediately or give it up.

I've done one autocross in my life. It was in 98 with my school's first FSAE car. There was plenty of parking lot and it seemed like a given. Now that I think about it, we were probably given some extra latitude.

I did, however grow up doing donuts with a '61 beetle on my parents' farm/airstrip. I feel it's a critical step toward really understanding the vehicle.

Simply being able to hold a car in a circle around a fixed object with confidence will teach you a great deal. It just seems like screwing around, but being able to open up or close the circle with throttle and steering inputs consistently will pay great dividends. For the skills it hones, depending on the size and safety of the practice space, it's relatively low risk provided you don't bounce the engine off the rev limiter the whole time.
