My wife's reasons are not so altruistic. She will not ride in it because she thinks we are going to get run over by a truck, it is too low, too noisy, too bumpy, too cramped, scares her on turns, scares her on railroad tracks, scares her on lane changes and in summary just scares her.

I have the opposite problem. Every time MomHawk drives mine it makes her want to replace her Mustang with a newer model with better handling.

I just keep telling her there is no such thing...fortunately she doesn't read the forums, or magazines. I just have to make sure she doesn't take a test drive!

I like one too much still and the other would be just too costly. I will let you decide which is which.

Aren't you like, 60k miles deep in heavy commute traffic without any accidents?

Does she deny all data driven conclusions across the board, or just the data you generate?

She thinks data is that funny looking guy on Star Trek.
The irony of it all is that I have never had a single accident in 40 years and a couple of million miles of driving. He has had 3 including simply driving into the rear of some guy that was stopped. I am more afraid of her hitting me than anybody else.
I think what makes her the most nervous is the wonderful view of door handles and tow hitches that you get from my car.

So she's basically sitting in your car and thinking "damn, I would probably wreck this tiny thing if I hit it with my car."

I told my now wife when we started dating " I drive manuals and manuals alone, so if your going to be with me you're going to have to learn, because I won't have you unable to drive my car." To many friends and acquaintances I know that don't drive the cars they want because their wife refuses to drive stick, and that wasn't happening to me.

My wife mostly refuses to drive my BRZ, because stripped out racecar lol

Edit: and yes it was a very stressful thing, teaching her, there was much yelling, tears, etc. At one point I recall her telling me she hated me and never wanted to see me again.

[Quote] City driver - should I get auto or manual?

I suspect that anyone needing to ask this question should not consider a MT!
And perhaps not this car! Just sayin' . . . . .

Damn this thread is still going lol honestly, this car should only be driven using manual. Not auto. Otherwise, this car isn't the right one for you. Especially if you aren't sure which one to get. You get the most out of it if you go the manual route.

So, have you driven this car in an auto? Otherwise your opinion is completely and utterly worthless.

Before you ask, I test drove an Auto, and loved it. I still got MT because thats my preference.

City driver - should I get auto or manual?

To be honest, what you should go for is up to you. I'm pretty sure this has been said in the 3 other pages of this post I haven't read but here's my thought process on this.

For example, I drive an Automatic Camry right now in a small "city" that doesn't get too much traffic unless it's rush hour, it's easy and nice to drive automatic because there's not much stop and go's for me. If I were to switch to a manual, I'd be perfectly fine and wouldn't get "annoyed" of driving manual in stop in go traffic as much.

However, let's just say I have another friend that drives the same car, but is known as a "road rager". He HATE'S stop and go traffic and takes the 405 to go to work and comes home on the freeway during rush hour. Since he's really impatient and annoyed easily, manual transmission might not be for him.

It all depends on how you feel and what you think is what you want.

If you end up getting automatic, and people talk down on you for it, fuck them. It's your car, it's your decision. It doesn't matter that it's automatic, what matters is that you're driving a car you love.
