I think he meant with SS piping, versus the painted black piping.

Well he did say it was SS... so painted stainless? Get it sand blasted if you can't have black pipes

Yeah, he also said 409 and all the specs on retailer's sites say SUS304.

So hopefully we can get some clarification on the piping metal. @Torry@HKSUSA

Edit: More info here: http://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/produc...ffler/db/15549

"*2: Main material in the component figure
: SUS304/High quality stainless steel.
: SUH409/Stainless steel commonly used for stock exhaust."

This makes it sound like the canister is 304 and the piping is painted black 409.

This makes it sound like the canister is 304 and the piping is painted black 409.
You have it correct. It is 409 SS piping and 304 SS muffler, with a titanium tip. The black piping is not painted black, it is a thermal coating. I would not try to remove it.

As for making a 304 SS version of the High Power Single exit cat-back, that is not in the plans at this time. Making the same exhaust out of 304 would not only be more expensive, but it would also alter the sound because the thermal coating of the 409 also helps to act as a sound damper.

The point of the High Power exhaust is the performance. By using 409, HKS can also use a the High Power Racing straight-through muffler and it's not too loud. Using 304 would not give any more power and would just be louder and more expensive.

The quieter exhausts can use 304 because they have a muffler with more sound deadening, but it's also more restrictive (which is why they make less power).

Perfect. Thank you SO much for your reply. So awesome to have an active rep for HKS helping our community.

Personally I love the look of the single exit, I would already have it on my car if my driveway wasn't so steep - I'm afraid of scratching the beautiful canister!

@Yobiwan @Torry@HKSUSA

I know the Legamax Sports sounds pretty close to stock in terms of noise level at idle, but can you hear it from inside the car under part-throttle acceleration? How does it compare to stock?

I find that while I can hear the stock exhaust standing behind the car, I can never hear it from inside the car, partly also because it gets obscured by the sound-pipe. Even the very subtle Mugen exhaust on my Honda van is louder and burblier!

it will depends on your setup. but I swear - from inside- it will sound like stock under part throttle with any exhaust combination.
actually, even with WOT, it does not sound louder inside with catless header + overpipe.

..
but from outside, it sound like different car.

Ahh to be really honest that's a little disappointing! I was hoping to get a few more low frequency rumbles in the cabin with an all stock car + HKS Legamax Sports. Strange, considering how poorly insulated this car is compared to my Odyssey.

Sounds great from outside though, thanks for the clips!

@ blackstripe77 If you want low frequency rumble >.> wanna trade with my Apexi N1 extreme + cash? Retail @ 1400 but you can find them for 1200 online.

I have too much + my car is louder inside the car all the time then outside the car thanks to it. ....Been looking @ HKS exhaust cause they offers good medium.

Haha I think I'm a bit far.

I haven't checked out the Apexi or the Injen but I'm going to assume they're both pretty loud! Was kind of looking for something similar to my Mugen exhaust on my RB3 Odyssey - it's quiet and unobtrusive in normal driving, but you can JUST about hear them, and they make a pretty good noise after you've put a few miles on them and whenever you put your foot down. The HKS Legamax and STI axle backs seem to come closest. It's just weird that every time I hop in the BRZ I get reminded that my van is louder lol which is why I've been listening to way too many BRZ exhaust clips.

Also weird is that any louder-than-stock exhaust can't be heard from the drivers seat?? That's gotta be an understatement right??

I have the Legamax with a TOMEI UEL, and it sounds awesome. You get just enough boxer rumble without it being annoying. I have only received compliments on the sound of my exhaust
