Congrats man, it's a confusing time but it will sort itself out once you start researching. I haven't seen the thread discussing the various options for the twins. The only thing I know is that the car seat has to be rear facing until the child is a certain age and/or weight. I've got the BRZ and the new Highlander for baby duty. Even with the highlander, I have to move the front passenger seat up to accomodate the size/shape of the car seat.

FWIW - i bought the Britax Agile travel system. I'm sure the quality of buying all independent components (car seat, stroller) is probably greater but that's why I also bought a huge SUV.

General tips:
- expect the first month or two to be very difficult but know it gets better
- don't use the internet as a source for how to raise your kid...only you know the needs of the baby so don't start googling everything.
- help the wifey/gf as much as possible because she will have a roller coaster of emotions herself.

Could this possibly fit? I don't plan on ever having a passenger while I'm on baby duty, so the front seat can go all the way forward
http://www.albeebaby.com/recaro-perf...FZKCaQodwxYEqw

edit, also this one, not really sure of the difference between the two.https://www.topracingshop.com/produc...FVc1aQodSDMLQQ

From my understanding, these are the kind of seats I need to start with (rear facing)?

First off, congrats to you OP, fatherhood is probably both the hardest and most rewarding thing you'll ever do (at least it is for me)

For a new born, I would recommend the Chicco key fit 30. Its a "baby carrier" style seat and it fits pretty good in the back seat. You will need a couple of rolled up towels to prop it up the right level. Also, if you have 2 cars, you can just buy an extra base and be able to "click in" to either car.

Congratulations!

For the first year the baby legally has to be rear facing, which with the size of today's car seats won't work in the 86 unless the passenger seat is all the way forward and leaned forward. It's recommended that they stay rear facing for as long as you can, since it distributes the forces from a front-end crash much more evenly through the backrest as opposed to the belts when facing forward.

first get a carrier style seat like this:

This style works great for the first 8-10 months, most fit babies up to ~32".
It's great because they can sleep in it and you can transfer then in/out of the car without waking up, as you just latch it into the base (which stays in the car and is anchored)
The negative about this seat style is that it is virtually impossible to make it work if your car is a 2-door, unless you remove the passenger seat altogether. Even on a big coupe like the e92 3-series there isn't enough of a gap to fit the seat into the car. A 4door is really a must here. We had a Nuna Pipa, but all of these are really similar.

After the baby outgrows the carrier seat you can switch to a convertible seat like the recaro performance ride (my personal favorite).

These seats can mount forward or backward facing so they last much longer than the carrier style seats. When forward facing they fit great in a 2+2 like the 86 too. My daughter still spends her travels rear facing in mommy's sedan, but in a pinch she can ride in the back of the BRZ.

To maintain some level of cool you will obviously need to buy this stroller. Will also increase efficiency of travel:

The Graco Classic 30 fits perfectly in the car. Yes, the seat has to be all the way forward, but you can pretty much just slip it through the door and slide it on top of the base. The Classic 35 will also barely fit and is a very tight squeeze.

The Recaro convertible seats will fit rear facing, but you'll have to go through the driver door to strap your little one in. Fortunately, you'll have several months to figure out an alternative if this is too much of a pain. Clek convertibles will also fit.

These are all of the carriers/seats I test-fitted in the back of the BRZ and AT THE CORRECT ANGLE, which is very important. The safety of the seat is greatly diminished if not correctly installed. Also, did I mention that you need to have the seats installed correctly?

I didnt even attempt to install the recaro rear facing. Is the passenger front seat usable when the recaro is rear facing?
