JR organizes all the nuts and bolts in a way that makes the installation hard to F up. I did the install on the top of the parking garage here at my apartment complex and it took me two days with a neighbor helping about half the time. you only need basic tools and a torque wrench.

This is good to know, thank you.

The only step I'm confused about is regarding the "air guides (Step #5)." It says to drill them out if you have a BRZ, was that part a hassle?

Nah I just took them off. It's weird, I believe the very next step says to take off the tab that holds the guide. So i didn't bother drilling them off.

It's basically a CAI install plus an alternator swap. very easy peasy, and I'm not experienced either. I read the manual religiously and read through this thread to prepare.

I've read the instruction manuals for both the JRSC and Edelbrock kits and still don't have either kit. More preparation usually results in less "oh shit" moments, and I'd rather not have those during the middle of an install which could put my car out of commission.

I admire the simplicity of the JRSC kit and how many happy owners there are with their kit.

The edlebrock kit looks amazing! It was a very hard decision with all the great options out there. I had a second vehicle thankfully. I ended up taking a few trips to the store to get some special sockets for my torque wrench. particularly a 14mm and a 5mm allen.

some more pics. I installed the oil reservoir on the passenger side so that I can install my crank case catch can later.

That C38 looks huge, I'm leaning towards the C30 kit because I don't plan on doing anything other than the CARB tune.

What was the 5mm allen wrench for?

...and a red unicorn BRZ appears.

The bolts on the SC that the bracket attaches to requires it as well as one of the intercooler bracket bolts IIRC. They have to be torqued down to certain specs.

Good to know, I have one of those allen key sets but for a couple of bucks a proper hex socket with a torque wrench would do the job for torquing to spec.

For anyone out there considering which SC or turbo kit to go with, all I can say is that Jackson Racing's customer support I've found to be flawless. I had a warranty claim which was processed quickly, and another unrelated issue. Both times Jackson Racing has worked with me and been very helpful and supportive.

The numbers speak for themselves.

This is a late post (just recently joined forums) but I would like to thank the guys at Jackson Racing for staying super late after their closing hours so that I could drive down to pick up the SC. I appreciate what you guys did! The SC has been great so far, no issues or leaks. Installation was surprisingly easy considering the little experience I had with modifying cars. It took my buddy and I about a day to finish.

C38 tuned by Motoeast. Cant say enough good things about Jackson racing and their quality. This kit was very easy and fun to put together. The car is running better than stock with Mike's tune so I definitely recommend going with Motoeast for your tuning if your in the market. They've got a great deal and can get you out the door for under 5K and they've been very supportive through this whole journey.

The power and the sound is intoxicating!
That big ass C38 looks sexy af, how much are you making to the wheels? Any other future upgrades you plan on doing?

I've been reading alot on the forums and broken shaft or oil leak seems to happen quite often with the Rotrex units. Somewhere I read also Rotrex could have released a fix to their latest units? Seems to be the same case on the 8thgen civic platform.

Off the top of my head I know of 4 cases. One of which was not warrantied. I am sure there is more of this happening though. I also think that Rotrex units might be out there on our cars in the hundreds. I am willing to bet the failure rate is insignificant and the chances of it not being warrantied are even less likely. Sort of like the blown engine threads. They used to make me feel horrible about my engine, especially the N/A blown engines. But the actual failure rate is miniscule. What I don't have is actual numbers though so asking a vendor for their take is a better bet. This is sort of along the lines of what a vendor told me about failure rates of the Rotrex units.

Hey guys,

Was looking to buy the c38 kit. Is it reasonable to buy the carb legal one and just get a custom tune? Seems like I'm just paying an extra $1,000 just for a sticker. Or should I just buy the C38 tune it yourself kit?
