Think about where your average person falls on the chart combining reflexes, dexterity, and comprehension. Now realize that half the population falls below that line since it was an average. Because of this, certain 'mundane' tasks are dumbed down to their simplest form so more people can 'get it'. So to your point, which would be easier to teach the largest group of people? Also, on the subject of 'better', it could be argued for either side but the economy of scale pretty much dictates that unless you are trying to extract every last iota of performance from the vehicle, the gains from one method over the other are negligible at best. However the gains from KISS are greater over a wider sampling of the population. (not starting a flame war, just playing devil's advocate.) |

None using my left foot to brake because it is just a dumb way to drive. Does this answer meet your strict question response requirements?

But as a proof of concept that maybe it senses if you're in gear or not (and since my lot is basically deserted after 6), I accelerated and without lifting hit the brakes. The engine kept pulling right into ABS as the track pads stop the car hard and releasing the brake pedal the car resumed accelerating like a rubber band. That's on a MT. I'll hazard a guess that the AT will respond in kind. For a point of reference, the AT might have more guards against other forms of abuse (like neutral drops). ie, on the last model Celica, if you rev to a high RPM and slam the shifter into gear, it will drop the RPM to a reasonable 2k-ish range before engaging drive. However, if you power brake (another example of 2 pedals simultaneously), it would let you build significantly more RPM since there is less drivetrain shock. Hope any of this helps. |
