Why on EARTH are people putting asymmetrical license plates on?

I'm sorry I have to say this, this looks HIDEOUS and it's like some kind of 'trend' on FT86 cars. Why are people doing this? This looks like someone who has a piece of food stuck below their right side of their mouth.

Uh, because that's where the tow point is so that those of us in fascist states can mount our plates without drilling the bumper. Or using zip ties, or that silly ass magnetic system some people rig up.

If you're talking about the license plate tow hook mounts, it prevents from having to drill into the front bumper.

I don't get it though. If having a front plate is required by law, wouldn't it come with the front bumper drilled regardless of what you want?

Up in British Columbia, Canada, all the cars on the Subaru and Scion lots already have the licence plate mount drilled into the front center by default.

Uhh..just drill the bumper. I mean seriously noones going to be like "OMG look he drilled his bumper!" it's a spot that everyone knows is for a license plate. Putting it way to the right is just ugly.

So you'd rather have an ugly looking offcenter thing just hanging off?

I'm moving from here eventually, back to a state that doesn't issue front plates. I don't need you to validate my decisions regardless.

Cheaper than paint and bondo.
Are you trolling or something? I'm really beginning to suspect a troll. Just based off this one post, I already know who you are on reddit, and I'm not surprised.

Cheaper? You spend 10s of thousands on a beautiful car and then make it look like crap by just having something hanging off to the side? Can no one voice an opinion without being called a troll? I'm actually saddened to see these cars with hideous flaps of skin hanging off. You know damn well it's ugly so obviously I'm not trolling.

Ya, I agree front mounted license plates hanging off the side aren't what I would do given the choice. My front bumper is already scratched up by all kinds of hills and curbs from where I live. I don't mind drilling holes into my bumper that no one will see. If a car is in prestine looking condition, then I can see the need to use the tow point. For me, I plan to replace my front bumper in a couple of years once it gets really hideous. Maybe then I'll consider a side-mounted plate. More likely, I'll drive without one and see how long I last.
