FR-S\BRZ owners give thumbs up to AE86 owners
Hi,
Had a chance to see AE86 on my way home from work. Guy was in AE86 beater, but regardless of looks, knowing the entire FR-S\BRZ history ties with AE86, gave the guy big thumbs up so that everyone could see it at the red light. Guys, give AE86 and beater-Civics props, when you see them! These are the guys that popularized these cars to the point that now we are lucky to have ours. Its cool when people are checking out our shiny toys. But its also cool to give some of it back.

Thank you, we collectively put a lot of papers, petitions, and inputs for the engineers over the years since 2007. That is, us the AE86 users from 26 of the past years.
I am glad the engineers at Team 86 took us seriously, and incorporated a lot of the features we asked for, like easy maintenance, ability to carry 4 tires in the back, staying light and rear drive, spirited NA engine, slick transmission, fun set of tires and ability to fit bigger ones, folded upper fender wells, solid unibody, great seats and seating positions, standard LSD, and much more.... At certain points in time, we all gawked at the choice of Subaru flat four, or Scion badges in the USA. Some of us were again bothered by the choice if a colloquial name we came up a long time ago Hachiroku (86) that meant the AE86 and not this new car... However, getting behind the wheel, and spending 5 minutes in the car at speed, all those marketing and resource choices all made sense, and complaints flew out the window as we all put a grin on our faces and headed for the twistiest roads we can find. Indeed we all are very lucky bunch.

I've always given AE86 drivers props. As a previous owner and devout fan that car holds a special place in my heart. When I was in Japan in November I saw one in Tokyo and started taking pictures of it. The drivers GF noticed and pointed me out. I got a big cheese smile and peace sign out of him. I gave him the thumbs up. Language barriers be damned, we both knew that car was magical.

I have a feeling they might take it as an insincere gesture, unless it's clearly well taken care of.

^^^ Seriously?
I still give Subaru owners props from my BRZ and would gladly give props to any FR-S or AE86 owner I saw. Why would they take it as an insincere gesture? These are the cars that ours were based after. If they don't wave back, who cares? At least you're staying true to the roots of this car. A BRZ/FR-S owner who supports AE86's knows what's up. The people who don't wave are probably the people who don't know anything about the history of this car and bought this because their TC got old... And no to Civic beaters...leave them to their own group...most of them will try to fly by you anyways to prove their Honda is better. Granted their are sweet Honda's around, but the majority of civic beaters that you see on the road daily, are the high school kids with the flat rim hats and noisy fart cans.

their was actually a discussion i saw about this on Club4ag, talking about how when FRS owners pull up to AE86s and dont even give thumbs up because they dont know their roots. almost sounds like your being a little stuck up too, just saying

Are ae86 rare in the states? I would use a different hand signal than waving if i saw a beater sprinter. And the real question why the fk would anyone care about civics?

The "fast and furious" crowd are the life blood of aftermarket companies. While I don't think I need to give them props and thumbs up, it is important to embrace them, IMO
