Don't worry, they will look nice. I just prefer big wheels on all 4 corners and being able to rotate the tires for even wear. Now you need to find some tires, er tyres!
I suggest 245/35 front, 255/35 rear, maybe 265 if you don't mind some rubbing.

Did a google search, but didn't find much.

Would a square set up with different offset have any adverse effects?

Want to stay with smaller, lighter wheels since I'm stock. Something along the lines of 18x8 +40 front/ 18x8 +35 rear. Only wanting to lower the car 3/4 in to 1inch.

I suppose getting same size wheels and offset would work with a spacer in the rear but I came from a muscle car and spacers were always shunned upon.

No adverse affects. Just difficult to rotate tires. Using a spacer would allow you to rotate the tires easily.

for 18's you only want 40 or 35 series.
Square tire setup is ideal for handling and tire rotation.
Look up tire size calculator and use it.
Depending on how low you go or how much tire you want, stretched or square or super meaty etc... Look at the meaty tire thread and the aggressive wheel thread and decide what tire size you want. 9.5's need 245 or bigger, anything smaller will be stretched and 245 is slightly(depending on brand/model).

Privat Kups

I'm wanting to fill the wheel openings without replacing any of the suspension parts. And I would rather not drop the car as this is my daily driver. I'm willing to give up a little in the way of handling performance for ride comfort.

That said, here's what I'm looking at, and I'd like to know if this wheel/tire combo will fit with my stock suspension and ride height:

Privat Kup 18 x 8.5, 36 offset
Tire 235/45

45 series is a bit tall. But you wanted to fill the wheel well, so that works. If you want comfort you want soft or taller side walls and smaller wheels. Look at a tire size calculator and compare to stock. It will throw you speedo off by a little bit. How much? look at the tire size calculator.

That size is an ok choice if you wanted a taller tire.
Also look at 235/40 or 245/35 or even 245/40(tall).

I was going with a 235 width tire because I was worried about rubbing the fenders. Will I have rub issues with the 235 width or wider?

I'm using the "WillTheyFit.com" page for my calculations.

235/245 won't rub with those offsets on stock suspension. Ideally you want 35 or 40 series tires on 18's. 45 series can be ok too. Just check the height and compare it to stock. Stock is 24.6 or so, +/- 2-3% difference is ok, anymore and you have to decide if it is too much or not.

Is there any way to recalibrate the speedo to account for the difference in diameter?

I believe it's in ECU somewhere obfuscated, how readings from speed sensors on wheels gets interpreted. If it's not been done by now in these 3 years since release of car how to do that, then chances imho are very slim. I myself would love ability to recalibrate (for speedo to show real speed as per gps, instead of usual for recent cars -5/-10% even on standard sized wheels), but so far haven't seen anywhere nfo how to do that.

There is no cheap way fixing the speedo.
I wouldn't worry about it. Stock speedos usually reads fast, by the time you change wheels it would be closer to accurate. And 5% at 65 mph is like 3.25mph. Which is almost nothing.

It's ~ 8% here on stock wheels/tyres (59kmh@gps->64kmh@speedo,79->85). Funny that larger size wheels should make speedo show speed closer to real. Pitty they also will make car accelerate slower. I wouldn't want it to perform worse, but i certainly would prefer speedo showing real data, not corrected by what manufacturers agreed upon to lessen speeds on roads.

When mine says I'm doing 30 mph, I'm actually doing 29 mph. I drive past one of those stationary radar "your speed" gizmos every day in a 30 mph zone. This is with stock wheels/tires.

Looking at a set of wheels right now in 17x8, and trying to decide between +35 or +40 offset. Currently on stock suspension with OEM crash bolts, producing very little camber (about -1 degree). Plans to do more suspension upgrades relatively soon for better alignment specs, and eventually springs or coilovers with a slight drop of around 1".

What will the difference be between the +35 and +40 with both stock suspension and a slight drop?
