I would figure that's there to give them the ability to reject a car in poor condition. I don't know how closely dealers look over cars before allowing the GTP and shipping one off to Subaru. It seems sort of a weird situation to me, since the dealership doesn't actually appear to be in a position of looking out for their own interests. I got the impression that if the dealer thinks the GTP is overpriced they would be buying the car for Subaru, rather than for themselves. Unless there is a rather strict criteria Subaru uses on purchases, I would think dealers might scrutinize their own purchases more than the ones they make for Subaru. I could be completely wrong, but my dealer didn't give me the impression that Subaru only buys cars in excellent condition, although certainly they're looking for cars in good condition with average or below-average mileage.

I'm currently trying to sell my Cayman R prior to getting my BRZ. The problem I have is that the car is so new and so limited that none of the pricing sites I have found can give me a trade in value for it so I am worried if I don't sell it privately that the dealer will really low ball me on trade.

Selling a Cayman R for a BRZ? Are you unhappy with the Cayman, or is it just too expensive?

However I went to Mazda and they offered $15,000... Are you trading in another Subaru, or a different make?
Just going back a few days but I got 16,000 for my 2010 Legacy premium when I sold it to Carmax... And I had over 37000 miles on it. There is no way you should get less than I did.

I'm not unhappy, but I want to take my equity out of it and spend it on my racing efforts instead. I think the BRZ will be just as fun for half the price though.

Ahh, that makes sense. I'm kinda in the same boat, but on a smaller scale. I'm weighing the BRZ and a used Miata.
