Track Outing 15th / 16th Aug
My ex-boss from 15-25 years ago has expressed an interest in my playing on racetracks, so I'm taking him out for a weekend of fun.
We'll be playing amidst the racecars at Midvaal on Sat 15th, staying at Plaaskombuis near Meyerton that night, and playing with the civvy cars [Supertrax] at Zwartkops on Sunday 16th. Excited - who's going to join us?

I'm going to be at Zwartkops on the 16th and it will be great seeing some familiar faces . As an aside, I'm spending this long weekend polishing my baby so I'm staying the hell away from the skidpan for the foreseeable future. To the track!
@Alang, what happened to the Seven o.O and why are you swapping out the clutch? Planning on going past 300hp? |

Apparently I was a teeny bit hard on the stock clutch so I've upgraded to a more "robust" one.

I see on FB that @JouMaSeHoes se broer will be at the Z on Sunday with his red Honda S2000.
Wonder if the cool black Porsche will make an appearance?

Midvaal dashcam collage.
You never know what you'll be on track with there. And a pic of a very rare Porsche 910 from 1967. It's the real deal, not a replica. We were on track at the same time, but sadly I never passed it, or got passed by it, so I don't have it on dashcam, just a pitwall snap. Hope there's something cool like that there on Saturday.

^ that's hand-in-mouth awesome. I'm always so proud of people if they own awesome cars and actually drive them. I felt the same way about the Cobra until a friend explained to me that they are basically all kit cars

Midvaal raceway 15/08/2015
Always fun to put a racecar to bed, even if it's at the bottom end of the foodchain as racecars go. This is Johan Venter's early 1980's VW Fox which he races in Historics. 1600cc, twin 45DCOE sidedraught webers, full slicks, and probably weighs half of what my car does. You'll notice his racing lines are very different to what we've learnt with track days. They come from shoulder-to-shoulder racing - ie: early turn-in to block anyone trying to gap it up the inside. Midvaal Raceway 15/08/2015 - 1m19.289
At long last!! After a previous personal best of 1m20.1, I've eventually broken through the 1m20 barrier despite a track full of oil and cement dust, and with a passenger on board nogal - whoop, whoop!! Sadly my video cam had died so I've got no video of that exact lap, but I do have a crappy video taken on my old Nokia of a lap 0.6 sec slower in the next session which I've been able to reasonably successfully merge with the actual datalog from my 1m19.289 lap. For my Toyota petrolhead mates.
This Supra was at Midvaal on 15th August. Interestingly, not a road car - it's fully built for racing with rollcage, racing seats, cutout switches, full slicks, and completely gutted. Sadly, it looks very tatty, like racecars often do. It didn't have a number, so it hadn't been raced yet. I guess it's a work-in-progress. I wanted to have a chat to the guy, but he wasn't there for long, and disappeared before I got to him. We never really met on track either, so I guess we were approximately similar speed. I got this pic on my old Nokia cellphone video when I passed him after he's spun out. I think that spin caused damage when he went off because that poor Supra gave birth to a very convincing pool of oil in the pit lane I don't know if I'm happy or sad seeing a Supra as a racecar??
