Who's investigated FA20DIT manifold & turbo?
I was browsing ebay for a long block and came across quite a few FA20DITs. I hadn't looked into them at all and was amused by the turbocharger placement and packaging.
Who's had a chance to look at the FA20 and FA20DIT side-by-side. Would that exhaust manifold and turbo package fit in a BRZ? |

The WRX and Forester FA20DIT motors sit about 4" higher in the chassis than the FA20 in the FR-S/BRZ. The turbo setup takes all of that extra 4" up. The hotside discharge is also to the opposite (drivers) side.
So we just re-engineered the concept for the BRZ/FR-S. |

That's pretty nuts. When you look at the pics on ebay it looks like everything is tight up against the engine but it's all relative. These things are mounted stupendously low in the BRZ.

It was designed that way for superior handling lol.You probably could remove all of the undercarriage plastic to make room, but I would be a little nervous with everything exposed to the elements and debris. Mostly because of where I live in OK. People's trash and not well-maintained roads with huge asphalt chunks everywhere. I'm pretty sure the metal engine cover has saved my oil pan at least 5 times this year.

From what we've seen (We have both a shop BRZ and 2015 wrx) it can be done but won't be worth the time and effort. You're better off putting forced induction on the brz/frs engine.
