Not sure. It blew up with a bang and a lot of smoke so I never even opened it up to diagnose.
Sooooo.... How much does a new FA20 run?

LOL I've only had the car since 2012 and I'm on 11,000 miles roundabouts.

But I only drive it as a weekend or weeknights car.

seems like you have the auto transmission? any issues with that throughout these 100k? and did you ever change the tranny oil at all?

lastly - your first engine..it just blew up under normal driving conditions or were you pushing it pretty hard (i.e. track)?

How much can you source off the blown engine? Looks like OEM shortblock is just over $2k with full units being pulled out of wrecked cars for $2k-$4k, couldn't find an oem long block replacement, less if you're willing to do a little bit of wrenching.

And then add labor if you aren't.

I have the manual trans. It just blew up going down the freeway!

So when I was looking at motor options used was WAY cheaper than anything I looked at. I ended up buying a motor from LKQ with only 1,800 miles on it for only $3,100 shipped and it was "fully dressed." There were some cheaper used motors but this one was pretty much just broken in.

He had to replace an engine, what would you consider a major issue?

edit: looks like some folks beat me to it

Guys, take a breather.

I'm sure some of our engines will last to 100k.

No no no, you should know better. If one guy on the forum had his engine blow up before 100k miles, all of us are screwed and will be lucky if our engines make it to 50k miles. Oh, and the FA20 is also a terrible, unreliable engine due to this one account alone.

It's like you've learned nothing from this forum. I'm disappointed in you.

Damn, thread changed attitude so quick! The heck...?

Anyway, my 22re made it to over 300k+ and running, so my FA20 will do least 200k, i promise. If i drive it nicer itll hit 300k too!
