Seibon DV-style Hood (questions)
I have some questions for the Seibon DV style owners out there:
Are you happy with your purchase? Did you see noticeable reduction in under hood temps? Did you see any measurable changes in gas mileage? Is it actually lighter than our featherweight stock hood? How has it stood up to the test of time(wear)? Does it shake or flop at high speeds? What is your overall impression of build quality? I have heard/read missed Seibon interweb banter, but I want to hear actual experiences from real owner, not anecdotal evidence from parroted I read this and that on hondatech... Thanks!

I'm interested in this hood as well and am anxious to hear people's impressions. But on the quoted question above, I think all wet carbon hoods are heaver than the aluminum stock hood. I believe the only way to go lighter is with a $$$$ dry carbon hood.

If you search you can see plenty of threads with conflicting information about the Seibon stock-style CF hood. One thread lists it as 15.2 lbs compared to stock 15.4 lbs. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ht=seibon+hood While this thread says it's 6 lbs heavier than stock. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ht=seibon+hood Please stick to posting quantifiable data.

the few pounds won't make a huge difference..you're getting hoods like that because of the way they look and the fact that they are venting engine heat.

When I answer these questions I'm referring to my ISF but I got my buddy the mentioned hood above and he agrees with the following answers..
Are you happy with your purchase? yes Did you see noticeable reduction in under hood temps? Only on track days Did you see any measurable changes in gas mileage? No Is it actually lighter than our featherweight stock hood? Yes very slightly, doesn't make a difference How has it stood up to the test of time(wear)? Its been over a year since I've had it and no signs of yellowing or any problems yet! Does it shake or flop at high speeds? Going 140 mph down the highway and the hood is still intact. What is your overall impression of build quality? Love it, for the price the quality is great and I get nothing but compliments, six other owners purchased Seibon hoods after they saw my car at a meet. |

What happens to the engine on rainy days?
Will the rain affect the engine adversely since more water can seep into the engine bay? Would I need to fabricate or get a rain guard for the hood? |

I'm located in socal and it doesn't rain too often even when clouds are out, so I took my car out to dinner around 10 pm. I glanced out the window in the middle of dinner and noticed it was pouring rain. Towards the end of dinner I remembered that I had a vented Seibon hood and was scared that my engine was soaked. I started the car and drove it home, no problems and the engine was completely drive. The drive home was 5 minutes so within that duration I doubt any rain that got in there completely evaporated.

@ModinJapan thanks for the reply. I live out in SoCal too so I wouldn't really worry about the rain that much too haha. I just wanted to make sure my engine would be okay

If anything, you can stick maxipads onto the vents for light rain if you are scared..
(But seriously.... people really do use maxi pads during fair amounts of rain, so its a cheap and decent temp fix if it doesnt rain too much in your area.) Last edited by ModinJapan; 06-12-2015 at 06:04 PM. |

I ran a vented hood for over 4 years on my daily driven Rx7 in Seattle. It was no more wet under the hood than without them.
