*all prices from FT-86 SpeedFactory.
But you are comparing a tuning software to a tuning software + a tune. You don't NEED to buy a tune from a 3rd party to use ECUTek. You can buy the software (~$500) and tune it yourself, just like with OFT. It can even use OFT maps. There really is 0 reason to use OFT. Just buy ECUTek, play with it all you want, then when you realize you have no idea wtf you are doing, go to someone who does to get a real tune.

I was making that comparison because the OFT comes with tunes on it. For it to be a valid comparison then the ECUTek would need to come with a tune as well.

I won't even pretend to know how to tune my own car, because if I get it wrong things could go bang and then I'm out a car. Would dyno time for a simple stage 1 or 2 tune be less than the additional $325 it would take to just buy FT86SF's canned tune?

It's interesting that they can use OFT maps though; I didn't know that.

EcuTek = software + tune

OFT = software + 5 tunes

Ecutek comes with a bunch of base maps as well.

Price of a custom tune depends on your tuner.

Eh, it's not a **** measuring contest, although OFT vs Ecutek threads always go that direction. I will maintain that they're different products for different applications. Although I did learn more about Ecutek from this thread, so that's good.

Or should I just buy the ecutek one ?

To answer your question, I bought a OFT a couple of months ago, and it is really simple and easy to use. I flashed stage 1 93 tune and you can definitely feel a difference. If you want a simple, easy way to get some gains out of your bolt ons, or with a stock car, for the price, OFT cant be beat. Once you get a catless header, you can flash a stg 2 catless header tune. For people like me who are NOT building a car for the racetrack or drag strip, it is completely fine.. good luck.

For clarification, I'd like to point out that you do not tune with OFT. OFT is simply a hand-held flashing and data logging device that comes with a catalog of free, unlocked OTS tune files. So when folks say that most tuners won't tune or touch OFT, what they're really saying is that they don't want to tune with RomRaider or any other open source tuning software.
