I am also hoping for an updated engine in the STI in the next 12-24 months as I would most likely trade-in my WRX. |

As a cvt owner I have to say it's surprisingly good. And as others have said, it's really to help Subaru draw more people into the fold. Even in Japan, the S4 is only available in the cvt so it seems to be their strategy

Do you guys know the difference between the WRX FA20 engine and the BRZ/FRS FA20 engine other than the wrx version having a turbo?
Are there any other significant differences? |

starter being in a different place, Direct injection only, compression ratio probably some other things but those are off the top of my head.

The FRS/BRZ uses Toyota's D4S direct injection system, while the FA20 in the WRX and Forester uses Subaru's direct injection system. Compression ratio, starter location, induction/aspiration type, intake pipe routing, etc.

I traded in my BRZ for a 2015 WRX. I really love the WRX. It is obviously faster, and I feel that I can take corners just as fast. It's a much better daily driver. I would stay away from the STi for the next year or two. Due to upcoming MPG regulations I am sure they will be updating the engine soon. Add in some new competition from the Golf R and Focurs RS, and I would guess on at least a slight power upgrade.
All that being said... I still miss my BRZ. If I can only have one car, it is the WRX. However, I'm strongly considering picking up a used BRZ for a fun weekend car. It is a very fun and rewarding experience. You can't really go wrong either way. I might just wait til BRZ prices drop to the mid teens. |

how much more do you think the handling will be improved in the 2016 wrx vs 2015 since they are adding inverted struts to the 16?

It's all relative, though, isn't it? I did 16 years of daily driving of Jeep Wranglers with mud tires, and prior to that I daily drove a worked over 67 SS Camaro and a 1970 MG. The BRZ is worlds ahead of those prior vehicles in the noise department, it is not even funny. And when it rains, water doesn't drip off the underside of the dash onto my shins! |

Someone in a '15 WRX blew past me in traffic this morning, and then in some stop 'n' go he took off into the HOV lane so quickly I was positive he was going to run smack into the back of the garbage truck that was already there -- both times no turn signal of course, but man, compared to me he sure was quick! Not a fan of the new WRB though...

FA20DIT is DI only, with TGV (tumble generator valves) for low end combustion stability. Aside from the obvious turbo and stronger parts, it has a cooled EGR system added too. @Jond63 I don't think the WRX is actually that much faster overall, I thought the two cars were quite comparable when I drove them. From a dead stop it's got quite a lot of grunt when the turbo kicks in, but it runs out of steam pretty fast as the revs climb. I was personally a bit worried that the BRZ would feel slow because 2 liters for the curb weight, plus longitudinal RWD = extra hypoid gears for a few percent more mechanical losses didn't sound very promising. It actually felt similar to my 1ZZ powered MR2 which I thought would feel a little faster with 1.8L pulling almost 800lbs less (salesperson was sitting in the car), because the VVT response is way faster and the engine is much smoother. |
