That's good to hear, definitely something in the software, the dealer supposedly flashes the car to fix this, I'm 6spd so I agree that in an AT the load at idle is different. Good to hear some progress. Not a tech but im sure it's a combination of mechanical things like motor, flywheel weight...causing the drop when an accessory tags in.

Shhhhhht. ECU learned. Not as good as it was bypassed. Not as bad as it could be non bypassed. Prolly going to remove bypass and go back. Ugh.

I have a 2015 FRS AT with less than 2000 miles on it and have idle issues. It is definitely not the air conditioner compressor cycling on and off. I have the 'basic' system, not the deluxe dual temperature climate control system. I believe that "turning the air conditioning off" may not actually stop the compressor from cycling. It appears as though the compressor will cycle even if the air conditioning is not on ... i.e. the button\light in the temperature control is off ... but if the "where does the air go" selector is in one of the windshield defrosting positions I can hear the compressor cycling on and off. I turned the air selector to one of the non-defrost positions and the compressor cycling stopped, but the idle continued to fluctuate between 1000 and 450 RPM. The dealer had the car for two days and got nowhere. They brought a new FRS AT from the lot into the shop and discovered that it also had idle issues and therefore declared it "normal". I tried to explain the difference between "consistently incorrect" and "normal" but got nowhere. The service ticket is still open and they were going to talk to the next level of technical support but I've not heard from them in the last week so it might be an "out of sight, out of mind" issue. Anyway, if the "throttle body coolant bypass" incantation will fix it I am willing to give it a try. Thanks, Arvid

A/C (cold air) is used to defrost windshields in many cars. Even if you have the heater on in winter, if you switch the selector to defroster, cold air will blow out of the defroster vents. Does that help or did you know that already . . . ? |

Wait isnt this fixed with tsb ecu reflush on subaru side?? My car have same problem too, it dosnt happen all the time but there were several occasions that it occurred so I'm used to putting some slight pressure on gas to keep rpm around 800~1000.

I think if the TSB fixed the issue permanently this long thread wouldn't still be active, could be wrong doe.

Idle issue?
No the tsb didn't fix a thing, I had it done. The tune on ecutek made it a bit better but didn't fix it, although I haven't really raised the idle speed. The problem is the idle speed being low and the AC clutch kicking, same old. I think nothing will fix it unless the idle is raised to 700 or above.

I assumed the A/C came on to act as a dehumidifier. It would cool the air in an effort to lower the air temperature below the dew point. After the moisture condenses on the evaporator and is removed from the air the air is reheated and the "now much dryer air" warm air is used to defrost the windows. What I was trying to convey was that, even though the air conditioner is not "on" ... i.e. the button is not pressed and the indicator light is not on ... the air conditioner might still be 'on' and the "strange idle" is associated with the compressor cycling on and off. But that is not the scenario I was seeing as I can definitely hear the compressor clutch click on and off when the A/C is on for any reason, and in the erratic idle I and the dealership saw in my car and the new, zero miles car, it was not the A/C compressor cycling on and off. Arvid
