Been a while since I posted here. Got a bit of an update lol.
Car died mid-autocross. I was topping out 2nd gear and the gas pedal stopped working. Came to a stop near some course workers and stalled. Car wouldn't start back up. We pushed it off the lot and disconnected the battery hoping it was fuel-cut and would reset. Reconnected battery and car still wouldn't start. Pulled some fuses and found the 15A EFI CTRL fuse was blown. Put the spare 15A fuse in and tried to start car. Blew the fuse again. Car has been towed to the dealer to have the electrical system looked at. Hopefully it's not a wire melted by the turbo, maybe some possibility at warranty then. Either way I'll post updates when I have them... This thread shows folks having a similar issue with various places where the fuel electronics might short to ground. If it's a melted insulator I'm probably SOL on warranty lol. Hopefully not too much $$ Edit: Unrelated but I just realized how good my paint looks in that picture...

Sounds like a grounding issue. I installed the 86 Cusco grounding kit early on to try to avoid issues like this. I have read several other owners having issues with motor electrical grounding. Hope everything works out and the problem is identified early by the dealership.

From what I understand, there are no wires close enough to be melted by the high-heat elements of AVO kit..wonder what caused this.
Best of luck man.

From what I read, it's a fuel injector wire coming in contact with the metal cover. Here's a solution: http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/name...lack-1744.html

If it actually is that, I wonder if it's early production models having the potential issue. There's a ton of foam padding underneath my injector covers and I don't see how a wire would melt or become damaged under there.
Sounds like a perfect opportunity to move to Radium fuel rails and a Nameless injector ECU mount

Apparently my drive belt was rubbing on the wiring harness. Shop said the wire got rerouted due to turbo kit installation. They're repairing the wires, I'll get more details in a bit.
My kit didn't have a heat shield. It was either left out during installation or not in the box. I have a turbo blanket installed. The service guys said that this wasn't a melting issue. They're re-routing the wire so it won't happen again. Edit: My car is from the first round of production, but given the fact that the wire was moved I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Last year you posted : Thanks to @Pure Automotive for a fantastic installation! Well, Sounds like they forgot to install your heat shield AND left your wires vulnerable. Good thing you didn't have an electrical fire. It sounds like they are responsible for this failure from what you have told us. I would at least let them know. Am I wrong? |

In this exact case I am at fault. PTuning had redesigned my intake and secured the wiring harness to the MAF against a piece of hose near where my AOS lines needed to route. I had cut the zip-tie holding the wires in place and nothing seemed to be wrong with it at the time. Turns out the drive belt ate its way through the wires. Lesson learned. Got my car back and everything runs fine.

@nataku How's your replacement header going? Has it been leak free at the flanges since the new one went on?
