Raffle Items?
I didn't know where to suggest this so I figured this would be a good a spot as any. If it needs to be moved, mods, please feel free to. On a sports forum I'm on, one of the things that has just kind of started is to raffle off autographed items. I thought it was a good idea and could also be a possibility here for vendors. Lets say Raceseng, for example, wanted to raffle off their pulley kit which they have listed on their site for $495. They could open up say 20 available "spots" at $25 a piece (20 X 25 = $500). Once they get 20 people who commit to pay the $25 to the raffled item, those persons names are entered into a randomizer (random.org has the one we use) and after 5 clicks that switches the names up at random, whoever is in the number 1 spot wins the item. Makes it kind of fun for the members here to get a chance to get an item they want for a really low price and the vendors get to sell an item more easily. A few details would need to be worked out with possibly a new sub forum, but I thought it was worth suggesting. Opinions?

TBH, I don't see any problem.
As long as vendors post it in "Announcement/Contest/Giveaway" section. It's all up to the vendors to do it or not imo |

As long as the rules are clearly defined, I don't see anyone being able to say they were taken advantage of.

Technically it varies by state. I'd be more concerned about transparency. Maybe require it to be a live feed of the screen doing the randomizing, etc.

That's pretty much how it is done with the autographed items. After all spots are payed for, PayPal being the usual method, the seller enters all the names into the randomizer, then starts recording their actions. So let's say I was the vendor, after entering all names I would start recording with my phone or whatever. There would be two tabs open in my computer, one of the thread on this forum where the item is listed and one on the random.org site with all the names entered. Then I would make a post on the thread saying all payments are made and the winner will now be chosen. Then I would click the tab for the randomizer, and click the randomizing tab X number of times, we usually do 5. After the 5th click, whoever is in the number 1 spot is the winner. Then I would click the tab back in the forum and make another post saying the raffle is done. Next I would upload the video of all that I had just recorded showing who the winner is. Making the first and second post gives a time stamp and the video recording would verify. That way there could be no disputing the results.
