You cant feel down inside the CV joint.
that cage you see is inside a joint about the size of a beer can.

My car just started making this noise as well.
I think it IS a failing CV joint.
I cant tell if it is an inner or outer from the noise.
I can make it do it repeatedly by rocking against something like the curb in my driveway.

I plan on taking it to the dealer next week..

I doubt the dealer would cover mine since I have a supercharger, among many other things, if that ends up being my issue. I know a guy that works at a dealer so perhaps he can pull some strings.

It is probably your axle. Mine has been clicking more frequently recently. It started just after 30K and I'm past 60K now and the frequency of it happening is increasing. Yours is much louder than mine right now.

Does it sometimes click when letting off the accelerator while above ~3k rpm in first gear?

FYI, My bone stock BRZ does this exact same thing @ 23,000 miles. It does it while in reverse, moving from a stop, the 1-2 and sometimes the 2-3 shift is noticeable as well. The noise happens (or is noticeable anyways) under normal, sane driving conditions. I can't hear it with the windows up and it's also nothing I can feel either. No idea what it is.

my car makes this exact noise only when e-brake is engaged and I either rock the car as I get out, or I put it in first gear and start to engage the clutch while e-brake is still engaged. No other time do I hear this, and I'm lowered about 1.5-1.75". Exact same noise. 14k miles and still no issues.

I tried that already and they were already at the proper torque which didn't help. Thanks though.

I already tried that and it didn't help, plus the bolts were already at the correct torque when I used my torque wrench on them. Thanks for mentioning it however.

Just got back from the dealer.

They wanted to say it was the brake pads or the calipers.
I demonstrated the noise while driving and not touching the brake pedal and they agreed that it must be a CV joint.

They just ordered me a new axle-shaft - under warranty.

The drive shaft doesn't have a CV joint so I'm not sure why they ordered that. I'm confused.
