Grrr, got really excited but didn't notice the lack of A/C. That would've been a much cleaner configuration than the first one, but I definitely wanna keep A/C. Needs a roots-style blower to replace the plastic plenum!

The more I see this, the more I want to try a positive displacement SC. (Haven't had an SC car yet...)

CVT on a positive displacement SC would be a total nerd-gasm...50+% reduced throttling loss + perfect throttle response! I can keep dreaming on T_T

dunno if anybody has seen this already, but check out this homemade supercharged SVX setup:
[u2b]uvg0EjU8W7I[/u2b] [u2b]t_VAc3QWTv4[/u2b] this is how i'd imagine a positive displacement SC on the FRS/BRZ would look. except that plenum would house a couple of laminova cores on each side to make an integrated water-air intercooler. the obvious problem is a lack of space under the low hood. the next hurdle is cost. the cast intake manifold would cost a lot of money to develop. unless a large company puts in the $$$ to develop, i wont hold my breath waiting for this one. lets hope that mythical TRD SC is exactly what we're describing here. |

I still like the Rotrex for it's simplicity, and keeps much of the stock equipment in place (intake manifold, TB, etc).
Also, I had a roots SC car for a while, and the whine is only fun for so long (I'd rather just hear engine/induction/exhaust, and it's easy to heat soak even a good intercooler setup. The Rotrex was a lot of fun, makes enough low end torque and builds linearly through the revs without any sudden surges or kicks and without any letting up. Positive displacement is great for heavier cars, but IMHO the design benefits of the Rotrex outweigh the low end torque difference when installed in a lighter car such as the BRZ/86/FRS |

Also, looking at the pics more closely. The race car version does in fact have a larger, cable-operated throttle body, which is the reason for the adapter.

Looks like they straight-piped the HKS SC car.
You can see the race version of the kit (shown in the last few posts) at the end of the video. |
