I think I'll just go with the ls3 480hp hotcam *fantasy island*... That with vorshlag headers and a tune I am sure will break 500hp

I'm a little late to the party, but if I had the money these guys have to build 2JZ Rocket Bunny-kitted FR-S's, I wouldn't be driving a damn FR-S/BRZ; I'd be driving an Aston Martin or a Ferrari like a boss.

All good bud, I am sure you'll be much happier with the new setup and the guys at vorshlag.

@cf6mech:

Ahhhh..ic. Didn't know that your car was actually the one on Vorshlag blog..the "Alpha"

Nice! I am sure this will be a very very different and pleasant experience for you (judging by Vorshlag's website/blog that oozes professionalism and Realness). Idk why on earth you went with that first hack shop in the first place, lol. Sorry to hear about that. But at least you're in good hands now...should be a night and day difference *infinity

Make sure to take lots of driving vids when it's all done...both on the street/DD and at the track.

When the LSx swap is done... What are your suspension/coilover plans btw? ...and also wheel/tire setup?

Also, which exact block/head/intake manifold are you going to use, when all said and done? I know right know it's in mock-up stage with different engine parts...just wondering if you're using a crate LS3, or maybe just an LS1 or LS2 block with an LS3 intake manifold (for the ETC)

So....the Tremec Magnum XL is the only tranny that fits (bolt-on wise) the shifter hole in the tunnel? Kind of an expensive tranny and only found brand new, right (since it's a new tranny)? Is there any "used" alternatives that can easily be found used and also fits (but still bolt-on'able..no need for major fab/mods to the tunnel/shifter hole)?

So what are the perks of being the guinea pig if you don't mind sharing? ....free kit? ...or free engine too? ...free everything?

Who are some of the best/premier tuners for the LSx btw??

And is it like imports? ...meaning can you buy EcuTek OTS tunes and/or get "remote tuning"??

I'm wondering how much extra NA power you can milk from a stock 430hp NA LS3?? ...if it's anything like import tunes and their pretty decent % increases just from tuning, I'm guessing a good NA tune on a stock LSx engine can probably break into 500+whp, correct?

I think I'd be pretty content at having 500hp and wouldn't do anything more to the engine.

Also wondering if an LS3 in an FRS can hang with a crotch rocket, maybe a highway 40-120 race and maybe just a typical 600-900cc bike. I saw some YouTube vids of Supras and other cars beating bikes..wondering if an LSx FRS can do the same. Prolly not tho lol.

My friend just made 550whp on his c6 vette with headers intake tune e85 and cam.
Cam is the Important part. Also dont forget crank hp is a lot different than whp. About 20-25% lesd

Yes I know(just didn't ask about it because I'm on fantasy island and didn't want to spoil my fun from hearing the real and maybe weak/disappointing whp numbers lol) ...I've been wondering what the realworld whp numbers were though... From say the LS3 430hp engine. Anyone know the average whp people are getting from that LS3 stock? I hope it's at least 400whp.

Are the cams on the "hotcammed" LS3 480hp engine any good?

From what I've quickly researched:

- Corvette and other domestic car owners have a lot of drive train loss and average 370-390whp from an LS3..maybe due to more/heavier drivetrain components?

- Miata owners average 400-410whp from an LS3

- The LS3 is underrated using a new rating system while the LS376/480 is overrated using an older rating system...resulting in them being very similar and the 480 only making 20whp more than the standard LS3. (I'd probably just get the regular LS3 then if that's the case...then maybe getting my own better cams than those mild 480 "hot cams")

- a tune can easily add 20-30whp from a stock LSx

- adding cams, headers and tune can easily get you into the 400s and maybe even 500.

That's about average for drivetrain loss. Doesn't a stock BRZ put down about 170whp?

Yeah, the GM "hot cam" (there's only one cam in the motor, btw) isn't worth the money.

Long tube headers and a good tune are usually worth around 50 whp. Intake can be worth 10+ depending on vehicle.

A good cam with stock heads can give you up to 50 whp, good heads with a matching cam can give you up to 100 whp, but cutting through all the bullshit marketing and finding an effective setup is tricky in the LSx market.

Or just put a blower on it and be done. 600whp all day. Notch the hood.

Ya no doubt lol.

I'd prolly just get a cam, headers and tune..keep it cheap and simple

I'd most likely be more than content with +400whp from cam/headers/tune in a little FRS anyways..Especially for a DD lol..given I prolly wouldn't even be able to wring it out on the street much honestly without getting into a lot of trouble haha. And on the track I bet that kinda power would be hard and scary to master and will take a while and a lot of practice to be able to control it's full potential. From what I've read on the miata LSx threads, the thing could easily reach 180-200mph potential depending on gearing and aero lol (the power def has the potential to quickly reach those speeds compared to a low power 4 banger). :O

Loss between the crank and the dyno drum is really more like 12-15%, not 20-25%. 550whp is impressive, but is nowhere near 733 at the crank (25% loss). More like 633.

Dyno results can be all over the place anyway. My LS2 with LS3 heads with a cam dynoed 517rwhp at one dyno, 463rwhp at another. Dragstrip (129.2mph)and Texas Mile (184.8mph) results suggest the car has similar power/weight to a ZR1, which means it's making about 540hp at the crank scaling power/weight. Obviously, the 517rwhp measurement was a bit optimistic!
