I came so close recently to buying a '80 RX7 with the 12A to have a rotary to play around with again. But just wouldn't have been smart financially. Got to finish current projects first.

One day. One day.

The prior few pages seemed fixated on comparing the cost of shortblocks. I'm sure most of the people who've posted here are aware that an engine swap requires numerous supporting parts and modifications. I'm also pretty sure that anyone who would actually consider doing an engine swap will have more than enough knowledge and experience.

However, I've been an admin on a very large car forum for 10+ years, so I tend to view threads with the knowledge that far more people read, but do not post. Many of those people are not even members of the forum, but rather have been directed here through google searches. For the benefit of those average car owners who may be very interested in a topic, but not an experienced mechanic, it's good to make a reminder once in a while that gives a complete perspective on a conversation.

Consider me a voice of reason. Carry on.

This thing seems pretty fast, for only having an older 314rwhp LS1.

I wonder if a (only slightly heavier) Twin, with a more powerful LS3/327, would be even faster...

http://vorshlag.smugmug.com/Projects...-LS3-Vorshlag/

Seeing how their stage-0 base kit(mounts, headers, driveshaft) for their current BMW e36 LSx swap is <$4k'ish, and their complete kit (cooling, fuel, electrical, ecu, ac/heat, exh) will most likely be $8k or less...this future FRS/BRZ kit will most likely be the same price. Very very enticing and not too expensive. Just add an engine and tranny and youre good to go

$8k (complete kit with parts) + $7k (complete new engine block) + $3k (new tranny) = $18k give or take for a swap with al brand new parts.

Finally have a total/complete realistic(not under nor over estimating) price estimate. I guess I had to figure that out myself since not a single person posted/said it, lol.

Whoever said it was only going to be and extra $8k-12k after the price of the car, I think was totally off and underestimating.

Why are GM and Chevy prices so different for the same engine? Are they the same engines?

eg:

vs

Well, you don't need to buy brand new crate engines since they are reliable anyways so 12k is still doable.

The erod comes with literally every gm part you could use in a swap. The ecm, pedal and wiring harness are built specifically for swaps. Meaning you dont have to deal with a body control modual, a gauge cluster harness, or finding the right accelerator pedal to work. This ecm and harness are built with only the engine and transmission in mind. Something that you either had to hackup/piece together or have custom built by a company called painless wiring. Its also emission legal depending on what you put it in.

Erod packages are amazing and the perfect compliment to a tube chassis, sand rail, kit car etc.

With a radiator and a car battery you could fire up an erod kit while its still in the shipping crate!

True...I figure you can get a good low mileage used engine for $2-3k. And maybe a used magnum xl trans for $1.5k if they could be found used, since they're new; if not, then a brand new tranny.

Videos sure are hard to find. Any other videos of NA/stock'ish LS swaps????

The only other I've seen is the Weapon Grade Performance videos...but those are a bit boring and only parking lot videos lol.

(NA videos only please; no Formula D1 super duper turbo/sc 1000+hp swaps lol...those are cool and all, but totally never going to happen).

Is this Weapon Grades' car?

Whoever it is...it has an LS2 with cams and still got whupped by a stock and heavy car easily ...but the Bette had an LS3...so maybe an LS3 would make a bigger difference in the FRS..imagine a hotcam 480hp LS3 in an FRS
