Honestly I have the same problem. Back when I was at tech school, we got offered a full snap-on tool set(all hand tools, air tools, and box) for 2k financed. So I got it...I "misplaced" my 12, 14, and 17 deep well 3/8th sockets, went and bought a cheap HF set, found the snap ons the next day...under my hood lol. Was mostly just glad they weren't in the 20g...stupid eclipse likes to eat things.

You have been extremely fortunate. lol. My experiences with dealerships (previously owned other makes as well) have been less than stellar.

I'm in no way a big fan of going to a dealership, the problem for me is its not worth my time to do it myself unless I can save a reasonable amount of money. I guess if I had to worry about them damaging my car that would be different. Luckily a couple of the dealers here for Subaru (same owner) are stellar when its comes to not being a typical stealership...it might be because Subaru's are abit of a hard sell here.

The hiring process is dependent on the individual manager running the service department. Some managers have higher standards than others, as with any job. ALL of my guys would have caught that. Anyone who wouldn't catch that wouldn't have a job at my dealership.

Change the channel, guys. We're not all the same. Some of us do actually know better than you.

I once went to a dealership for scheduled maintenance and specifically told them not to worry about rotating my tires (I was going to the track the next weekend and had put the worn-shoulder tires in the rear). When I picked up my car, the service manager told me that they had rotated the tires as a favor, free of charge.

The irony?

I had never given them my lug key. And when I checked, I was right. The tires/wheels hadn't been touched.

So not only did the service manager annoy me by saying he had rotated my tires and passing it off as a favor, but they hadn't in fact rotated my tires.

For me changing my own oil is not really about the oil change. It forces me to look over the oily bits of the car and check for problems before they become problems.

Sounds like the many stories about dealers providing a complimentary car wash when specifically instructed NOT to...

To give them the benefit of doubt, though, my current job is similar to a dealership service department-type job except we don't service cars; we service scientific lab equipment, and I can see how it might be difficult to keep track of all the particular requests of each customer, especially if the request was not personally given to the person doing the work.

It comes down to taking good notes and having a solid system in place where said notes are properly communicated to every worker in the stream of the service case (we use SalesForce).

@OP Rotating the wider tires to the front, though... that's just inexcusable

Thats why Toyota uses work order sheets. They put your requests in the work order typed in plain site. Its up to the person doing whatever job to read the piece of paper. They always give you a copy before and after the job is complete...Some workers are just complacent or lazy

Your right though it was so Noticeable (although i didnt notice at the dealership) it was ridiculous..I felt the difference driving home the front was extra Grippy

Trust me theres been plenty of "performance shop" horror stories to...Look through the threads....plus they arent replacing my condensated tail light for free under warranty so I kind of had to go to the dealership lol

Is this a dealership horror story thread? If so...

I took my car in for the first oil change and had them look at something else I thought was odd. Big mistake. A technician drove my car and somehow during all this, the individual scraped my front bumper. This is my first new car ever and I was not aware that dealerships treat cars poorly. I assumed incorrectly that they might have taken a bit of pride in "one of their own."

Never again.

End result was a replaced bumper and complementary scratches on the side of the car installed by the wonderful body shop.

Ouch, hence why many of us prefer to do our own work on our cars when we can. As the saying goes, "if you want it done right..." (do it yourself)
