Scion FR-S vs E63 BMW 6-Series 645Ci / 650i (2003-2005)

I had a similar thread with the SC430 comparison, but now I'm more interested in the E63. Sorry to keep doing these apples to oranges comparison. But me and the SO will be needing a second car soon. I like that it is a coupe and has more rear leg room. Any advice from current and past owners? Pros and Cons with both cars? (Obviously BMW have higher repairs cost.) I have found that the 2003-2005 with around 40k-50k are going for the low $20ks.

Will there be any need for practicality on your new car purchase? I traded cars with my friend for a couple months and he drove one of these. The rear seats are surprisingly roomy for a 2 door. Depending on what options you get the interior is pretty decked out. Unless you really want the V8 and care a lot about interior options, I'd say go with the FRS. It's a newer car for the same price and less headaches because maintenance is covered. If you're trying to get practicality out of a car then it shouldn't have anything less than 4 doors anyways. Just my two cents...

Do you want a 10 year old German car and associated maintenance fees, or do you want a brand new Japanese car under warranty for a bit more money?

There's an obvious choice that makes sense financially, even if it's more expensive 'up front' versus the other option. You also need to make the choice between a lightweight and low-power car versus a more potent and much heavier car...you don't seem to have made that choice yet given your comparisons. You also seem to want something fancy. I'm not sure, even if it's the 'smarter' choice, that this is the car for you.

Oh, I forgot to add whichever one I pick. It will be just driven as a weekend car (church, family gatherings, weddings and ect). So no more than 400 miles of driving a month.

I just need to be able to fit two short people in the backseat. (Thats why the SC430 was ruled out).

I had more backseat room in my SC430 than I do my FR-S. So maybe you should rule that out too?

I don't like the looks myself, but what about an IS Convertible?

Oh no, I think the IS-C looks worse than E63.

I rather have a coupe. But if it is a convertible, it has to be a hardtop.

BMW 335i Coupe

An older CTS-V could fit your bill if you want to go sedan and sporty.

I think the E-Class coupe is out of my price range.

I never liked the 3-Series.

I don't want a sedan. And CTS coupe looks awful.

But, I'll look into the G37 coupe. Thanks

I would also look into the new Accord coupes. Not a bad price, look nice, and Honda reliability with a nice V6.

Agree with Husker. If the SC backseat is too small - consider the FRS as not having a backseat. It makes the backseat on some other coupes I've had or driven look large. It's really like a storage row to put a bag or something on.

Accord coupe is nice. What about the new 2015 mustang? It's got much more room than this, the interior can be made pretty sweet if you go with one of the premiums (e.g. ecoboost premium) and even the cloth interior is at least on par with the FRS. It comes with a backup camera, steering wheel mounted controls, and now it has independent rear suspension etc.

Base price for the V6, which has some serious getup for a base model v6, should be at or likely below the cost of an FRS. It's what I would consider if you need a practical coupe.

Having driven both the 650i and M6, they both have tons of body roll due to the weight. Even if you're thinking practicality over all else, I can't recommend any of the older 6 series cars.
