It's too cold outside!
I think it universally understood that the car should be allowed to warm up before getting on it otherwise the motor can experience premature wear. Specifically the oil should be allowed to get up to temp. I also believe it is universally debated what temperature is considered safe before taking the car to redline and beating on it. Some say its between 190-200, some may even say 160-170 is okay. I'm in the camp that says the oil temp should be 180-250 F when the car is fully warm regardless of the load placed on it. With the temps dropping here in Houston, and a front mounted oil cooler, I noticed that my oil temps were barely reaching 180 before I finished my daily commute. Long term it may be harmful, but it'll be a while before i find that out. @brillo and I were talking about doing a blockoff plate. Just something simple to cover the oil cooler during the cold months. Before doing something drastic we both did a simple tape blockoff. I used black racer tape I had lying around in my flat. As you can see its real professional **eyeroll** 20131113-BlockoffTapeTestingColdWeather-002 by VictorN07, on Flickr Here are the temp log I recorded. The car's temp gauge read 44 F. The initial oil temp on startup was 51 F! I let it idle till about 70 before I set off. Luckily I managed to get to about 180 3/4's into my commute and it was in the 190s when i parked. 20131113-BlockoffTapeTestingColdWeather-001 by VictorN07, on Flickr I have to do some more testing. Unfortunately I don't have any temp logs of my daily commute in this weather without the tape for comparison. I may upgrade to a plastic piece held on with zip ties for easy removal.

First time at the Track...
....Taking photos. It was also my first time seriously using my week old Olympus OM-D E-M1. You guys can see that I am capable of shooting still stuff. It was my first go at fast moving cars. Hopefully I did alright. A bunch of 86 guys came out with the Lotus Club to Houston's Grandsport Speedway. It was overcast all day, and it rained a wee bit. I did not drive at this event. Full set here on my Flickr Here are a few @Chris@Phastek getting his roll on 20131116-LotusClubTrackFeat86-1542 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubTrackFeat86-1719 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubTrackFeat86-1890 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubFeat86-GrandsportSpeedway-2382 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubFeat86-GrandsportSpeedway-2071 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubFeat86-GrandsportSpeedway-1992-2 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubFeat86-GrandsportSpeedway-982 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubFeat86-GrandsportSpeedway-280 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubFeat86-GrandsportSpeedway-161 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubFeat86-GrandsportSpeedway-079 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20131116-LotusClubFeat86-GrandsportSpeedway-3042 by VictorN07, on Flickr

Thanks for taking pictures Victor. These came out pretty good. It was fun being on the track with other 86s and the vehicles from the Lotus Club.

My Lola
...In Forza Motorsport 5. This is a proper racing game. Sunk 12 hours into it already. I love how I can build my Lola pretty much down to the supercharger and wheels. Should I do graphics like this? P.S. The new flickr interface is making me cross

Raceseng Ashiko
Staying busy with life, and tracking the car. Done plenty to her but haven't really been taking any pictures. Haven't taken photos in a while and I miss it, so here I am with photos of the Raceseng Ashiko Knob. It's a heavy bit of kit, but that's why I bought it. It's even heavier than my flossy shorty knob. The shape feels great in the hand; I prefer the larger, non round shape knob. Not looking forward to the summer when I park outside. I need to get some sort of cozy for those times. Stock Knob 20140303-RacesengAshiko-011 by VictorN07, on Flickr The Kit. The knob weighs 735 grams! It comes with a thread adapter bit. That screws onto the stock shifter, and the knob screws onto that. 20140303-RacesengAshiko-016 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20140303-RacesengAshiko-017 by VictorN07, on Flickr Stainless Steel CNC milled. It's gorgeous 20140303-RacesengAshiko-019 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20140303-RacesengAshiko-021 by VictorN07, on Flickr Inside you'll see a black stopper bolt. Using a 3/8" Allen key, you can adjust the height of the knob, as well as adjust alignment of the engraving. 20140303-RacesengAshiko-045 by VictorN07, on Flickr The thread adapter screwed onto the shifter lever. Raceseng recommends you use loctite blue, and a 15mm wrench to secure it down. The reverse lockout mechanism is fully functional 20140303-RacesengAshiko-051 by VictorN07, on Flickr Knob installed. To make alignment easier, just screw down the knob tightly, then ever so slightly loosen it and screw it down again. Each time you loosen it, it turns the internal stopper screw a little bit, and you can turn it further the next time. Perfect way to get a great alignment 20140303-RacesengAshiko-053 by VictorN07, on Flickr It is the same height as the stock knob 20140303-RacesengAshiko-054 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20140303-RacesengAshiko-059 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20140303-RacesengAshiko-062 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20140303-RacesengAshiko-064 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20140303-RacesengAshiko-069 by VictorN07, on Flickr 20140303-RacesengAshiko-072 by VictorN07, on Flickr I miss taking photos.

Construction is great, very weighty, and I love the non-round shape. If the winter storm will subside I could go for a longer drive. When the car is fully hot, it drives great. I want to see how it does on a cold gearbox
