Some quick comments on my drift day on Saturday:
1. Dont use scissor jacks 2. Hardrace tierods are deece. Lots more lock. My lock is now limited by the fact my tyre is rubbing against the inside. 3. Solid subframe makes the car MUCH more predictable. Its also easier to initiate, althought this was being held back by my poor alignment settings, see below. 4. Rollcentre correction and whiteline sways have eliminated all of my body roll (good thing) 5. I tried -0.5deg camber on the back, in the hope tyres would last longer. And they did. Much more smokey too (assume because much more tyre contact patch) But WAY to much grip on stock 86 power. I couldn't link sections that 3 days earlier I could. It couldn't keep 3rd going at all, despite rapey clutch kicking. Revs just continue to die. Where as before it would keep 3rd going quite happily. FYI I was on -2.5deg camber before. Tyre wear was very even on -0.5 though; when I have more power, this is definitely what I'll be running. Going to do some work on the front now. Want to increase track, for more room for more lock. Will flip top hat to positive camber setting, this gives about 30mm more up top, then will pump out the bottom via a new LCA 40-45mm or so (either side). I dont like any of the current front lower control arms currently available, (they're not made for drifters IMO, not enough track width adjustment) so am going to develop my own. I've taken some quick measurements, and even with this track increase my volks will still sneak under the guard (has to be to be street legal here) But my Meisters definitely won't anymore My volks are 17x7.5 + 48. But with what I'm planning, they'll sit about 5mm further out (but with slightly more camber) than my 18x9 +35 Meisters currently do. I'll also need to come up with a custom tie rod and rod end solution to suit the extra track. I really want to keep the stock rack and knuckles (Well I have to, as both are forbidden to be modified in our drift series' in NZ) Will be interesting to see how much more the stock rack has to use. If its not much more than it is with my current setup, I might only increase track 20mm either side. Will do that by just setting tophat to central, and pump out bottom 20mm. Then I can probably still run Meisters, may need that 10mm wider fender. So really need to take some measurements of stock rack actual range first. Will keep you informed. |

What tires were you running on the rear in that video? What psi? Also, what RLCAs are you running. I have toe links on the way and between the two, I should be able to get the camber down by quite a bit. Just curious what you're running.

In that video I was running 205/40/17 Linglong Crosswind's. I find they give okay grip, but most importantly they dont delam/explode. I was running 30psi cold front, 50psi cold rear. Alignment I'm around zero toe -2 camber up front; zerp toe -0.5 camber rear. Not certain though, they were just what we 'eye'ligned before this track day. We did use levels and tapes etc so we'd be pretty close. I don't recommend -0.5 camber in the rear. Car can't keep third going. You can hear me clutch kicking it in the video just to make the corner. But the tyres wore very very well. I don't like running such different grip levels front and back. Which as a result of my different tyre pressures I am. I find that the front digs/grips in while under a 4 wheels slide, and the car wants to spin. But I have to run the setup that I do because of lack of power. When I put the turbo on, I'll run this alignment but with 30psi front and back. Only want to run ~7psi boost so I can still rape/limit bash the motor, so 205's should still be okay. If not I'll go to a 225 or 235. Want to try Federals next. But have a dozen new linglongs to get through. Mind you, I could sell them. IDK. Tyler, if you're looking to reduce camber, get UCA's not LCA's. Alot of LCA's can only INCREASE camber. That was the case with the racefab arms, and I know some others are the same. (When the new LCA is wound in, its the same length as the OEM LCA. So the new LCA can only get longer, therefore only increase camber.) Plus, UCA's are better because they don't change the toe when you adjust them, unlike the LCA. My UCA had adjustment either way compared to the OEM UCA. So could increase or decrease camber. |

Seems to be a need for a place for drift orientated 86 owners to talk about a common interest. Not intending on taking away from any traffic here (and yes got Admin approval before posting this here) Just looking to invite others that have a similar mind set about their 86. Page/group is called GT86 Drift club.
Here's the description/rules... Toyota GT86 Drift club. Don't join if you: Think the driving aids are necessary Don't want to see skids Think street drifting is bad Want to talk about fuel mileage Want to talk about plasti-dipping your wheels/intake/tampon Think that your Auto 86 is awesome Want to discuss group buys of sharkfins. Cannot take banter. Two rules 1: If you want to join, you need to provide an action picture/video of your 86 drifting, or at the very least, doing something impressive. 2: Anything shared within the club is done so for club members viewing only. No sharing of material posted within. |

Yeah we're quite lucky. Christchurch used to have massive street drifting scene. Still sort of does. But the local car club are making their track available for us more often, so we're getting a heap of time.
Just recently, March 19: Drift practise day April 1: Drift practise day April 5th: Regional drift comp day (Driftsouth) April 15th : Drift practise day April 19th/20th: National drift comp round at our track (D1NZ) April 23rd: Drift practise day May 19th: Drift practise day |

Gotcha. I'm running Stance LCAs. I'm about -1.7 right now but my toe links are maxed. I have RacerX toe links on the way. With everything said and done, I'm just trying to get between -1.5 and -1. There's still a good amount of adjustment left on my LCAs too. I know I won't be able to get to -0.5 or 0 though. Definitely would need the UCAs. I'm staying NA though. Getting the Nameless header and stuff so I think the car should be able to manage that setup pretty well.
