My money is on Toyota bringing the GT86 here in 2015. Not one dime of development money would have to be spent, and half the people who just got a 14 would be lining up to trade. WTF is up with some of the people who own this car? It's an awesome little car just as it is, and I'm happy and grateful that I can have one.

If this ugly piece of shit can do 420 horsepower with a 2.0-liter turbo four engine (highly tuned), I am sure 250 horsepower is just child's play for Toyota, no? |

well they are supposedly going to be producing that new 'supra' that caused so much commotion at the autoshow. So there you go... RWD, 300+HP, prob not as light, 40k maybe.

I am one of those who enjoy the 86 as it is. The power is adequate for normal driving on public roads. I appreciate the entry level pricing and the miserly fuel consumption.
Not enough power? Buy another car. There you go: 3.5L V6 314 HP RWD coupe from Toyota Motors. No need to speculate about when it will be available. You can buy it later this year. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI_XCWzWt88"]2015 Lexus RC 350 at the 2014 NAIAS - YouTube[/ame] |

Want to add my $0.2 here...I don't think you'll find many people that will deny that the FT86 platform is a fantastic driver's car and that they've really addressed this market well, however, this doesn't mean that it makes good business sense to continue to manufacture this vehicle. Even if they're making money by producing this vehicle, they could be at an (opportunity) loss. We have to consider that internally, the product lines are fighting for resources (capital, human capital, production capacity) and Toyota has an obligation to their shareholders to go with the most profitable line (within reason). We have to also remember that the R&D that has gone into the FT86 is going to take a while to dissipate, putting downward pressure on margins (especially given price point), while the flagship platforms like the Camry and Corolla have been around for so long that it's oh-so-tempting to continue to push these out.
Now I'm not sure what the utilization at Toyota is like but if it's anywhere near capacity, it's easy to see why they will logically choose to ramp down on sales. I'm going to flip through Toyota's regulatory filings later this week and see if I can glean some insight. The end of the matter is, it's all going to be speculation until they make an official press release and it could go either way.
