My 2013 FRS
Traded in my MINI on an FR-S back at the end of last year. I was wanting one when I got the mini but didn't want to pay for a new one (hard to even find new ones at that point).
Don't think I'll be modding very much at all, but I will search around on here. If there is anything I can do to improve reliability I will want to do that. Any suggestions? It will be my DD and I will put a lot of miles on it. 2013 Raven. 5k miles. Bought extended warranty to 100k. Car is 99% as far as I can tell. Here is a pic beside my "toy" Been driving the car for a bit now, so I thought I would share a few quick thoughts. Pros: - Great seating position and seats are nice - Good shifting - Steering wheel and feel are good - Looks nice - lotta compliments (couple niggles noted below) - Most maintenance seems like it should be reasonably simple - Decent space inside - Fuel mileage (this was my best - fantastic!) Cons: Hmm, not many - You can tell that car was built to a budget, as may of the materials seem pretty cheap, not a terribly huge concern for me as long as they hold up - Stock exhaust tips seem very whimpy and there don't seem to be a lot of inexpensive alternatives (I think my girlfriend's Camry has bigger and nicer looking tip) - Don't really love the stock wheels' look or offset - Headlights could be a little better Questions: - I know with my MINI, which has been around a bit longer, a lot of peopl added oil catch cans to reduce buildup on that back of the pistons due to the nature of direct injection. Should that be on my mod list? - Any other mods that will add reliablility or are considered a no-brainer? This is my DD, so I plan on leaving it almost stock, maybe a couple mods as hinted to above. I would like to make it sound a little better, but I am very concerned what I might end up with. Mods so far: - WeatherTech mats. I also got the Diode Dymanics custom badges, but honestly I haven't installed them and think they look a little cheap compared to the stock ones. - That's it so far... Cheap tips? Walmart has some I really liked and were easy to install.

This car has both Direct and the traditional port injection. So in that sense it should be the case that the port injected fuel will clean off intake valves, but its only a theory. It is also a theory that these catch cans actually do anything, if Toyota or Subaru or any automaker deemed it necessary to have a catch can they probably would. But as far as I am aware there are no OEM catch cans.
Regardless I will be adding a catch can or something similar once I boost my FR-S, but there does not appear to be any evidence that these things actually make your car last longer. The best thing for reliability is leave it stock and use common sense with driving and maintaining your car. |

Good looking backup toy! Improve reliability? - just do regular maintenance; keep it off the track. Exhaust tips? The muffler system, with the 2.5" piping and 5" mufflers gives a relatively mild, but yet strong sound. I don't believe oil catch cans on this engine for average driving are necessary. Have fun! |

The nice thing about the OFT is that it is an unmarried tune. It copies your original/stock ecu and can then be re-written with the OFT's free maps. So if you are going into Toyota for your first oil change, for example, you can flash your ECU back to stock and there will be no detectable trace - it will look like you never flashed/tuned your car to begin with. That being said, it technically will not void warranty as long as you make sure to flash it back to stock prior to dropping it off at the dealership.

Congrats and welcome.
Awesome car collection. I highly recommend the Nameless axel back and the TRD cold air. Easy to install, not crazy mods and make a big diff in feel and sound. |

If you want some nicer looking stock tips i would suggest getting the GT86 stock tips. Congrats on the car but from past experience i would also stay off the forums like said before, you will end up modding if you are on a forum, i promise
