okay, i have made my first protype mount that puts a Go Pro in the center of the car at eye level
it is designed to fit into the cup-holder for easy installtion/removal however, either due to my design or materials (which i will post later), it's just not stable enough. i have begun testing another idea, but before i proceed, has anyone figured out a way to mount off the roof-line (inside the car) without any serious modification the liner?

more questions! (and surprised why this thread doesn't get more hits)
i'm thinking of using a super adhessive to put a circular plastic plate on to the roof-liner in the middle of the car and swing the go-pro down using an e-bay suction cup with extra long arm this puts the camera right along eye-level in the middle and i think will be sufficiently dampened for acceptable vibrations i really don't feel like mounting the car on the windshield, so cliche

Yea it's a bad habit I'm trying to get rid of. Mostly use my had on the center console to brace myself & to be ready to shift.

For the track, I suction-cup a GoPro just to the right of the rearview mirror. When it's necessary the video is reviewed after a session to see car placement, and then it's deleted. The system's data software will sync the session data with the video so you can see exactly what the driver and the car were doing at any point on the track. Just looking at the data is usually enough to review the session (e.g., minimum speed in T11, where the driver went to full throttle in T5, brake trace for T1 - whatever the driver is working on).
Occasionally I keep a video, use Dashware to merge the data with it, and then upload it to share with other drivers, students, or a coach. This is an example showing the driver inputs I want to see, as well as the line the car is following: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skBtBia6b6g"]AP-2:04/3/2 - YouTube[/ame] Last edited by dradernh; 02-22-2014 at 03:33 AM. |

I pretty much agree with the helmet cam being very distracting in general but I may have found a good compromise. Mounting it on the side of your helmet, towards the back, will give you a wider angle and so it's less busy. Let me know what you think.
Facebook video but you can watch this without a FB account. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...54543916499181 I haven't had good luck on the side of my race car with a direct tape mount and then a couple arms. It seems like when I hit 130+ mph it starts to get wavy. Thanks, Phil Grabow |

I actually like the helmet cams. You can see where the driver is looking and what he is doing with his hands.

Yeah that would be nice! Anti-fog works ok but we didn't treat the window since we really didn't think it would rain. LOL

okay so I finally got some autocross footage from my custom built mount
the camera hangs in the middle of the car at head/eye level, basically some trick suction cup usage and a cheap broom handle... next version will probably be made from a wooden broom handle for added ridgidity but so far I'm pretty satisfied... it focuses the perfect amount on the track while still giving you a view of the hand movements, vehicle speed, rpm and when I shift. I have always found videos where 70% is the car's interior rather boring with little data for analysis, and pure windshield videos to give a false perspective on the action with again, no data on driver inputs etc. [ame]http://youtu.be/ffKT6T7s-NY[/ame]
