If I were you, I'd use one of those 12's. Build out a wall behind the back seat and have it fire directly into the cabin. Sundown makes some really good SQ subs and turned down they would blend very well. Also, you would not have to sound deaden the trunk at all.

4 12" is going to be WAAAAY too much in such a tiny car. Maybe dual 10" if you can manage to fit them in. 10" are probably the best for accuracy + power, and 8" are a compromise for space.
But I've heard the single DVC 8" in OEM Audio+'s Reference 400 CF system and the bass sweep in the demo will rattle your teeth! It's that good. So, an "untuned" 10" sub in a sealed box will probably be darn near ideal. Or go dual 10" in a custom enclosure using the spare tire space. I'd also sound deaden the trunk (not much to fill there so it won't be too expensive) and the headliner. That will net you the best improvement in bass response, as opposed to doing doors first. It's the headliner and trunk that most of your wind noise seeps in through and disrupts the sound. Dynamat those and you'll have a substantial improvement in low-end response, and an 8" or dual 8"s will sound fan-freakin'-tastic.

I listen to a lot of DnB, Dubstep, and other bass-heavy electro. A single 12 would completely cover your needs in this car. I'm running a single 10 and it does the job. With a better head unit and speakers, it'd be about perfect.
